do I miss out on anything for skipping them? Im doing the ones in the sector 5 slums

i wasted 40 mins running around to find these 3 blue jellyfish looking enemies. Its wasting my time and I dont have a lot of time to play after work.

it actually pisses me off. All these sidequests seem to be fucking fetch quest, why the fuck were they even added in the game FFS.

Wasn't that only if you entered Ispen's Castle rather than the side-quest itself?

I remember hearing that if you do that skip then Garnet has the "Garnet couldn't concentrate" for the entire rest of the game lol

Tbh I hated Chocobo Hot and Cold. The actual idea of finding a map and tracking down treasure was fun, but the game was too frustrating, and I could only ever be bothered to do it with the PC port that added a speed up mode that somehow didnt affect any in-game timers

I love Xenoblade but some of the side quests are fucking excessive and its annoying how the good ones are locked behind a ton of dull ones

At least they use the vision mechanic to warn you when an item is useful in the future but thats like a band-aid

Im sure less people complain about Xenoblade because it is more of an open world though

Also, I really enjoyed the Monster Arena and capturing in 10. And I LOVED the creature creation in X-2.

The side quests in the remake are hot garbage. Just an endless slew of go here, kill these monsters, come back. Perfectly fitting for the intro zone of an MMO, but not in a story focused single player game.

Edit: to answer your question, some of the side quests drop Materia that I think you can only get through side quests so yes, you have to do them if you want to be prepped for later fights. Plus it makes a cheating battle Intel easier because you have more opportunities to fight a wider variety of enemies.

part of the problem is that it feels like the side quests were slapped together and thrown into the game to pad the length out. when a low quality NPC is talking with bad lip sync then it cuts to cloud with millions more polygons and higher quality textures it just feels jarring with such a dramatic shift

Dude. Just look at the map. You can see the parts where it conveniently has a circular clearing where a battle would take place. Dont just blindly search.

It seems like the side quests are just there as a way to grind, for the most part. A little better mindlessly running at enemies when it's a quest goal.

The only good side quest is the one where you go into the lab and kill the monster you heard earlier in the lab. It felt like an actual final fantasy dungeon and boss run.

But fucking finding 3 cats, 5 kids, Chase down a girl for her to tell you to go fight some dudes in the colleseum like huh??? Why do I have to go all these places? Why aren't they just outside? Oh right padding.

I knew this game was padded as hell when you're playing as aerith trying to get to Marlene and shit just keeps dropping in front of you

Was that a side quest? I just did that last night and I thought it was part of the story.

You mean when you go back to sector 7 and find Wedge and fall through the floor, right? I was playing as Barret and there was this door covered in caution tape with something roaring behind it, then later when I reunited with Tifa a bunch of alien looking things attack and a giant one bursts out of the ground roaring. I assumed that was the thing behind the door

There are 24 sidequests in the game, and I'd say most of them involve combat in some way.

They aren't bad at all, and TC, you do get weapons from some sidequests so it's a good idea to finish them. Plus all the exp and AP you get.

hey just because you had a stronger card and still have a chance to lose as well as the computer being able to combo seemingly at will to pull a last turn victory doesn't mean tetra master is a bad minigame

though the only thing that brings triple triad down a little is the spreading of rules and some inconvenient times to play to get everything

I'd rather have side quests that I can do at will and involve fighting than the game being padded by Cloud walking slowly and terrible puzzles in dungeons. I like the battle mechanics. I don't like slowly using machinery in a brain dead puzzles.

Puzzles are very scarce. Lets not make a complaint just to have one. The game cant be fighting 24/7. You need to break up the pace. Its not just the puzzles that are happening too.
