The cops are allowed to try to trick you into saying the wrong things. And they might "misremember" things that you have said, as they aren't legally required to record any interviews. You have the right to speak to an attorney, invoke it. Be firm and persistent but polite about it. Once you lawyer up the cops can't ask you any more questions without the lawyer being present. Spouse was walking home one night in a hoodie and got the same thing, back when we were dating.
