Nobody cares. Everyone who's played the game has already gone back to it for nostalgia several times and moved on completely years ago.

All of the assets from the Helix Chamber leak were in there (The "beta" Pokemon back sprites).

Apparently it is since I'm running all kinds of Google searches and this topic is the one and only acknowledgement I can find at all.

Helix Chamber, SciresM, and other known sources for Pokmon datamining don't mention anything.

At the beginning Clefairy was the most popular and they were going to run with it as mascot until they decided it might not appeal to boys (or at least not western boys) that well and went with Pikachu instead.

The first Pokmon manga even ended up giving Red Pikachu AND a freaky Clefairy.

Considering the number of times the games were re-released, I wished Yellow had updated back sprites. The reason they look so bad is because they're from the Red/Green release.

Yellow had my favorite front sprites all out all the games. Pelvic thrust Mewtwo was okay. Only really bad one was Articuno because I have a hard time making out its head.

Does it let you play as Jake Gyllenhal?

While they had planned on running with Clefairy as a mascot at one point, I've never seen anybody claim it was the favorite.

Not sure why they didn't update some of the back sprites in Japanese Blue when they had new ones based off of the Blue front sprites in the Spaceworld Demo which was presumably worked on at the same time since it used quite a few Blue front sprites. So I'd think some of them were ready by the time they finished Blue.

Or why only Exeggutor's Spaceworld Demo sprite saw the light of day. (Was used in Yellow.)

Well, the alt-right bullshit is dying down. Not gone mind you, but not hijacking threads as much. So I've been following them more actively now.

So here's a summary:

-Yes, these are the same "beta assets" Helix Chamber got.

-It's speculated we only have the back sprites of the scrapped pokmon because the front sprites were redone for Blue and then again in Yellow and thus the scrapped pokmon front sprites were deleted for not being in Blue. (Hence why the slots that still exist for them pull up MISSINGNO.'s garbled mess out of nothing.) But back sprites are left alone in all the Gen 1 games. (Even though the Spaceworld Demo has back sprites designed around Blue's front sprites.) So that's why they still exist in the source code. (Which is what they use to generate the final version roms of the game. Hence, why there are things in there that can't be found by datamining the final versions.)

Unless we get ahold of the Japanese Red/Green source code, we will never see those front sprites. Because Game Freak sure as fuck isn't willing to share.

-Specifically, these seem to be the source codes meant for the NoA localization team. There's even notes discussing the English names. (Like how they wanted to name Rapidash "Gallop" like in the Japanese version but there were conflicts that came up. Or how NoJ wanted Dratini to keep the meaning of its Japanese name when NoA previously tried to call it Dragoon.)

-It's possible to generate an English Green Version rom using said source code. Not sure if anyone's tested it with either of the Stadium games yet. But it should work considering a fanhack of English Green works with and is identified as Green in the English versions of the Stadium games.

-Magby's Spaceworld Demo front sprite is in the Yellow source code for some reason.

-Some music changes. The Cerulean/Fuchsia City theme and Celadon City theme had longer beginnings. The Cerulean/Fuchsia City theme extended beginning sounds pretty similar to the beginning of Professor Elm's lab's theme. There's also an alternate healing jingle. And the Victory Road/Indigo Plateau theme..... has just one different note change right before the loop.

-Unused overworld sprites. Notable ones include a cat (Yes, a non-pokmon cat!), a suspected female playable trainer (She's dressed similarly to older versions of Red and is seen in some Capsule Monsters sketches.), and Clefairy. *Coughcough.*

-There's code for bringing up Mewtwo's pokdex entry in the Warden's house when viewing the fossils. Current speculation is that Mewtwo was going to be an ancient pokmon while the known scrapped pokmon Omega was going to be the all powerful manmade pokmon. (Given how it seems to be influenced by MechaGodzilla, it makes sense.) Other evidence for this speculation is how Mewtwo exists in the encounter tables for one of the beta maps, suggesting more than one of them. Meaning they might have designed Mewtwo first and came up with its backstory later.

-The code for generating Mews ingame for event cartridges is present.

-There are anime voice clip cries for all the other pokmon as well as some unused Pikachu sound clips in Yellow's code. Buuuuuuut..... well, people are having trouble making them sound as good as the Pikachu voice clips in the final game. So some of them sound quite horrific.

-They started looking through Game Freak's website on the Wayback Machine and found some old artwork that has been lost as well as some pages having the same names as files in the source code. Not related to the source code its self, but still interesting none the less.

-And 4chan is finally showing some ambition: some people are trying to create what could have been the Pink Version. Although it'll mostly be fanhack style stuff since using the source code to set things to the "Pink Version" just creates a Yellow Version rom. Right now they're struggling with creating a good enough looking Clefairy for the title screen. (Yes, they had the Jigglypuff vs Clefairy argument too. Not sure WHY it's an argument. Clefairy almost being the original mascot instead of Pikachu is common knowledge. Like, so common knowledge there were multiple variations of the story. Like one saying Clefairy was winning a popularity poll then Pikachu pulled ahead right before it ended.)

It's not known how far they got with Pink before they scrapped the idea considering how little there is in the source code for anything different from Yellow. But there is a border in the Japanese version of Game Boy Camera with Pikachu and Clefairy so it definitely was something they planned.

So yeah, it's interesting for sure. But I think the well's run dry for now.

The cat is weird, I'll need to check out this alleged playable trainer but it seems weird since they went several more games before giving players the choice of gender. And don't we already have a Clefairy-like sprite in the game as a default for certain Pokemon?

Some of what he's saying here is weird, however Pokemon development before they added in Indigo Plateau and had the league / tower mechanic in Silph Co (and Silph having an even larger part of the game) is very interesting. We don't know a lot of this part of the development of the game, but Mewtwo Pokedex entry in the Warden's house and a different Safari Zone are things that were in the source code leak.
