What normal is may have to be reestablished. When we're not all living like a city of hermits anymore, depending on the people who don't make it out of this alive, things could be pretty different, hopefully for the better.

No longer isolating to the extent we currently are (supposed to be)? Probably June-ish, though I'm expecting a major crackdown (think: tear gassing spring break party-goers instead of sternly scolding them) on non-compliant people before then to make sure this isolation is actually happening. Getting to a point where large gatherings are permitted again? Probably not until next year. Getting to a point where the economy has recovered from this disruption? I'd be surprised if we aren't still feeling these effects in five years.

My hope is there is a shift to just quarantining people who are 65+ and immune compromised since that is where nearly 90% of the deaths are occurring. In younger individuals symptoms are often very mild to asymptotic and dont require hospitalization, so no need to fear hospitals getting overrun as long as the high risk individuals stay inside.

Wishful thinking is may, but even the idea of staying in here all of april is horrific to me.
The problem I see is that it looks like things are just getting started (and in many places hasn't even started yet) in the US.

Because of this we have not even really started the countdown for this to end, because it hasn't finished starting yet:(

Maybe i'm wrong and it'll just fade away, and not hit most of the US eventually, but that has not been the case we have seen elsewhere, and I highly doubt it will be here. It also will probably eventually hit India like a storm and there is still going to be fallout from China I imagine (since they produce so much stuff).

I would imagine the "best case" is probably june or july at the absolute earliest, where we at least start trying to get back to normal with no SAH orders etc. I can't immgine those will be lifted in April (trump is crazy) and it's very unlikely to happen in May either.

I don't know what the world will be like when we emerge tbh if that is the case, (or what I will be like lol).

September though seems so far away, no way I can make it that long like this, so if that is the case, I'm gonna go out, make friends or something, somewhere I can go visit and hang out with others etc. I can't stay here in my basement for 6+ months, not gonna happen. I'd rather die of the virus.

This.

The two biggest arguments I see are

"Think of your grandma" and "young people are getting it as well"

Both should be easy to shut down though...the "grandmas" really need to consider it's high time they isolate themselves and let the world go on around them. At this point why arent they already doing this? And why arent we forcing them?

And the few young people that do die from it? Well it sucks but considering just them we are back to the "is it really that much worse than other seasonal diseases?" argument. Harder to say it is when the old people are factored out since they should be rightfully isolating themselves

Problem is that people with diabetis/high blood pressure/immune deficiencies/asthma etc etc are all at high risk as well whatever the age. Also the initial numbers we got from China were off about young people, and while you have a good chance of living, that is only true IF you can get medical attention and 25% of the people who need medical attention are young. That is still a very large number of people if everyone ends up getttng it.

Still think waves of the young are the best solution. you have less than a 1% chance of dying if a ventilator and hospital bed is available if your under 40. The solution is to isolate all people over 50 AND any with underlying medical conditions, then slowly "release" the young out, about 20% at a time (every 2 weeks) and be done with the young in about a month. By the end of April most of the US would be out and back to work.

It's the only solution that I see working to be honest. The idea of everyone just staying home for months and months just isn't going to work. I'm high risk and will almost certainly die if I get it, but I can't picture staying in here for 6 more months. It's worth the risk just to have some kinda life. I wouldn't choose to go to jail over dying, and I won't choose to self isolate for long periods of time over it either. Gotta have a reason to live man, it's not enough just to survive.

Long time. The politicians and the media are having too much fun with it, the CDC is glorying in finally being "important" , and someone is making money hand over fist (stockbrokers? pharmaceuticals? ) otherwise there would be huge protests over shutting down the economy. Not all of them are bedridden people who don't want to live. My grandma was working at a day care taking cae of kids. And they love to see her and talk to her. And she takes my sister's dogs out for walks multiple times a day. Why should she have to isolate herself on a normal basis and pretend that just how the world should be? Why should they have to cut their life even shorter and isolate themselves from friends and family just because?

DrYuya posted...

And why should we just not care about young people. Which includes most kids, or people with diseases that may not even be their fault. The reason the death count is low is probably because we're isolating ourselves. Had we not, the death count would probably be much higher. There's a chance all the old people and younger people with certain conditions, and kids, might all be dead. Plus, all the people who started having respiratory problems due the disease. And the hospitals would be so overcrowded that barely anyone would be able to get help. Basically, the reason we have less deaths is because of the isolation. Meaning that it's much worse than a seasonal disease. We were just able to keep the death rate low because of how "early" we caught it...

Trump and putin saved china by battling the dreaded pangolin armies and north korea even went to the sun to get the special sun metals to forge the friendship and understanding metals. Bezos shipped the vaccine to all the working people and the neets were told not to touch there face and stay indoors.

Amazing what happens when you not trying to figure out when the gov is gonna change the batteries in the pigeons.

No but the world is always waiting for the next disaster. We all know either a new disease, drug, ecological disaster, war or american president is gonna show up and screw things up to makes us to collectively forget the prior 3 years

And to mae it more crappy peoples memories are incredibly short. Most people operate that the bad thing about ww2 was either pearl harbor or hitler. Heck even the history teachers once over ashawitz (sorry about spelling) and the likewise othe concentration camps or the fact that americans did internment for the japanese (or close enough).

So unless this virus has a chromosome damaging effect like zika causing microencephalitis in 10 years the only memory of this virus as a society goes is gonna be haha toilet paper

hoo boy. This topic sure exploded!

anyway, I think the biggest impact other than store bankruptcy is going to be the trickle down from deaths. The two may be intertwined. Like if 200k die, and 10k of them are hands on business owners, those places will probably be gone and the workers, lets say anywhere from 5-50 in a small to medium enterprise, will be out of work and looking in a market thats too small.

Got bad news from the NY times today. Trump has announced every american should shelter at home through at least april and probably through june:(

While i knew april 16 was too early probably, I was hoping by the end of april this would start to let up a bit at least, and certainly not go all the way through may and june.

I hope they come up with a way to deliver groceries because if I keep having to go out and get the, i'm gonna get the virus the way the stores are working around here. I'm surprised honestly that I have not gotten it in the 2 times I have shopped so far. I was probably just lucky (i would know by now if I had that is for sure).

So at least another month like this, man, I'm an introvert and spend alot of time at ahome, but you don't realize how important the trips out you actually take are, until you can't take them anymore.

The problem with getting back to normal is no one is reporting honestly yet. Just to take one glaring example let's look at Hartford, CT. Confirmed 276, Active 274, Deaths 2. In reality that's probably the numbers for the north half of Main Street. Hartford is the worst city in New England for cleanliness. It has some of the worst slums outside of NYC anywhere in the New England region. Until the real facts come out we won't even know what we're really fighting.

I've been in New England since 1961 and have driven 99.9% of all the roads there except for Maine. Yes I used to be very nomadic as a youngster on both motorcycle and car and even Boston, MA was always cleaner and better kept than Hartford. Not that I believe any of the numbers anywhere but theirs are just totally off base.

Without knowing where to concentrate aid and medical supplies this will just rage even further out of control.
