I own it. Made it like a quarter of the way and stopped. I don't know why.

But i never hear it mentioned. I routinely see people mention 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 13, tactics but never 12. It seems forgotten.

Is it worth playing?

I really liked it. I played its original ps2 north American release so I'm not sure about the ps4 hd release which as I understand uses the Japanese releases job system

Probably because it was the start of their crappy battle systems.

I liked it... the story is dumb and skippable, but since I don't play games for the story I barely noticed

If you like programming a game to play itself for you it was fun, but I personally like actually playing games.

It honestly felt like an MMORPG where you are litterally the only person on the server.

I thought it was pretty lack luster/underwhelming when it came out when I was in high school.
I still keep that opinion now. I remember waiting months for the game to come out.
I remember taking 13 hours to kill Yiazmat without a guide.

I enjoyed it but I stopped playing it maybe halfway through because as a kid I was afraid to ever use a fast travel system in any game since that might cause me to miss some obscure content that only pops up on the road if you backtrack manually. Because of that I lost interest when I had to manually walk EVERYWHERE through miles and miles of roads and ultimately never found anything special for doing so.

I've gotten to the part with judge bergan and realized I was playing it more to pass time than actually enjoy myself so I called it quits. The game basically plays itself, and that's not exciting. You can play it yourself manually, but that's worse.

Then by proxy you can't complain about it playing itself?

If the battle system is so boring on its own that letting the ai play it is preferable to the effort required to input the same stuff, I think it's a valid complaint

I love it. Its my 3rd favorite for the series. If youre going to give it another shot id recommend the Zodiac version on PS4 though. Overall the changes were improvements.

And as for forgotten entries....3 is the only one i just about never see mentioned.

It's my favourite FF (tied with X).

Kind of like XIII it's a game people regularly underrate as to them it does not represent what a 'traditional' FF game should be like.

i liked the battle system, but i had serious philosophical issues with bounties like Yiazmat and Hell Wyrm.

its one thing to include superbosses...but if i can set up the gambits, rubber band my controller, and leave the house for 4 hours and that superboss isn't dead when i get home...that's just silly.

why would i ultimately give a fuck about the main story "big baddie" in a world where major eldricht horrors like that exist? the main bad guy is a pissant compared to some of the bounties. its a logical problem i have with most superbosses tbh.

especially if beating those superbosses grants the "ultimate weapon". once i actually have it, there's fuck all left in the world that requires the BFG of the game to kill.

in FF12 in particular, don't even get me started on the "4 chests you DO NOT TOUCH" if you want the Zodiac Spear...and even then the "ultimate weapon" is shit anyway.

i liked the characters in ff12, but the story was a mess. even compared to Revenant Wings.

12 is one of the weakest in the franchise. It was so bad it made me lose interest in the series, I have yet to get another FF game since it (14 kinda counts I guess but it's a mmo)

Hated the battle system, hated the characters, hated the level system (only played the initial US release) disliked the massive zones primarily the sand sea.

I don't really have anything positive to say about it. It had so much money and so much development time wasted by their botched leadership if I compare it to the PS2 launch title Summoner which had a similar combat system and butt ugly graphics I can only find Summoner to be infinitely better in all aspects other than graphics.

That is so ridiculous. I looked that up and I assume people only found out about that by hacking the game files.

ff12 is great and the more current versions solve pretty much every problem I have with it (job variety, "untouchable" chests removed, you can respec jobs, 4x speed)

only complaint I have still is that the plot is horribly paced in that the vast majority of the cutscenes and plot is in the first 1/4th of the game or so. i think raithwall was like the halfway point in the game's script? it was dumb and you can't just "fix" that

I'm of the mind that its a horrible game. The story was badly laid out, the main villain wasn't used properly and side characters had more going for them than the main characters. That said, I enjoyed the environments, and I've heard the Zodiac addition added some great things to the game.

But it continued the trend of taking things away from Final Fantasy which made it Final Fantasy. No more turn-based combat, no more world maps, no more airships(and no the fast travel we got from it and 10 aren't airships).

If I knew how to make Youtube videos I could make an entire one surrounding the bad and good of 12.
