Opening FMV, how nice.
A helicopter crashed, many tough looking dudes ready to brawl, some cute lady crying, and a band playing at what seemed like a casino.

So this guy just beat up another guy and left him to die.
Apparently the dead dude owed money to a loan shark and we're doing the heavy duty. We're playing as Kiryu, a yakuza member.

It's interesting that they use semi-stills for non-fully animated cutscenes. Interesting trick for sure.

Oh now it's the opening proper. Night clubs, shady karaoke bars, some ladies in impossibly short dresses, and Kiryu walking in his lonesome with blood on his mug.

Phone boxes and pagers, oh my.

Chapter 1 Bound by Oath

Yay, first combat. We gotta save some poor loser from getting shook down.

The combat is pretty fun so far, though being ganged up is dangerous.

Then we meet our friend, Nishiki, who looks like an intern pimp.

We beat up some drunk people and made peace on Earth. He's like if Mother Teresa were a street thug.

We met Lt. Hank from Detroit Become Human and he taught us to use the FF X skill system.

Two bimbos just showed up and Nishiki said it's a good idea to bring girls as some sort of 80s-era human sacrifice to the boss.

Nishi is trying so hard to look cool, it's a bit sad.

Man walking around Tokyo when I haven't left the house in about a week sure feels great. It's a lot of fun just looking aroun.

These suit textures are beauteous.

So yeah, somebody (most likely related to the loan shark) shot that guy in the head to frame us. And the place also holds some secret. Maybe there's an ancient strip club buried underneath.

Kuze is the jerk who tried to frame us. He asked us to spy and Kazama. We said go to hell and now he's after our ass.

Also I think I just saw a man eating a watermelon ramen.

By the way the rush combat is fun.

I played them in order strangely enough. I am currently playing Yakuza 4. All good games. For what they are at least.

Wowee we had to battle our way down the building before finally taking down Kuze himself. It was fun, actually, I'm getting into the flow of the combat system. Though I did get stabbed to death once lol, should've paid more attention to my health.

...what's up with the shady dude by the shrine? He gave me a cannon in the shape of a marlin fish. And a sarong. That's pretty ridiculous.

Also, man, if only it's that easy to get money IRL. This game's even more ridiculous than Persona 5, money-wise. Speaking about P5, walking around in this game felt more robust than P5. Kiryu had tempura ramen for dinner, yummy.

He's the DLC guy, the game comes with all the DLC it previously had in current versions so you just get all this stuff for free.

The 80s actually were like this in Japan. The economic bubble had everyone swimming in cash. The other Yakuza games, set a decade+ later, actually reflect this in cash amounts.

Also while Yakuza 0 is 'a prequel' technically its also currently the recommended place to start anyway because the remakes of 1 and 2 contain references to things from 0, so the creators actually intended 0 to be the 'new start point'.

I was aware of Japan's 80 bubble economy, but I didn't make the connection to the obscene amount of money. Nice touch there.

Also, I might continue playing today...hopefully.

@Raka_Putra Yakuza 0 is a prequel. It takes place in 1988 while Yakuza 1(the first game that came out)takes place in 2005.
