Well, it IS a piece of garbage, so you're not wrong there. I recently picked up a laptop with Windows 10 on it and... well, anyone who knows me knows that breaking Windows is kind of a hobby of mine. As there seemed to be a good deal of interest in everything I was doing, I decided to go ahead and write up a script for people.

This is a rough (and hopefully final) draft of my script. In addition to the standard disclaimer of "you're hacking your operating system, maybe make a backup first?" there's also the fact that this is, again, a rough draft. I've tested it pretty thoroughly on my own system, but that doesn't mean it's not possible for me to miss something. Please let me know if you run into any problems with it.

Well, yeah. Pretty much any product from XP onward required some breaking to put it in its place, it's just that each successive product required exponentially MORE breaking.

Windows 10 ain't so bad once you have it on its knees and you make it call you "Daddy".

Yeah, you can't stop the spying without doing a lot of stuff that Windows doesn't want you to do. Anyone who thinks that you can stop it from spying on you through the user-end settings alone is deluded.

This for me. I do have some thing about it that I don't like. I could make it even better if I learned about the things I could change but I'm too lazy to figure all that stuff out.

I have that exe file in the same folder unzipped to a folder called new folder while running the bat file as admin.

I have previously turned all my anti-virus off. Maybe it switched back on.

The .zip folder also contains an executable file called SetACL, which is a command-line utility from Microsoft that is used to take ownership of registry keys for all of the changes it makes. Assuming you run the batch file from the folder it came in, everything should be there and that check will pass.

(It also contains a few other things inside a "Windows" folder, but I only check for SetACL)

Is SetACL.exe actually in the folder, as well? If so, it could be that your command is changing the working directory for some reason... which is an issue (easily correctable, mind)

Well, just one example...

Timeline is basically Cortana's (oh, fuck off, censors) little brother: same invasive bullshit with a new look and name, as if we can't all tell it's just Cortana with a fake mustache and a wig. Joking aside, the short answer of what Timeline does is RECORD EVERYTHING YOU DO ON YOUR COMPUTER, which should be alarming even before you consider that Windows 10 also has a service called DiagTrack (renamed in a 2015 update to the less sinister-sounding "Connected User Experiences And Telemetry Service") which quietly sends data back to Microsoft. If any of this sounds familiar, it's becuase there's a term for this sort of thing: spyware. This hack will disable both Timeline and DiagTrack.

Cool, I like it already. I can tell most bloatware is gone now. You should share this on forums besides here.

I wonder if I'll disable updates though. On one hand, they'll just enable everything I just disabled, but on the other they come with exploit patches.

Looks like it missed an App called "Get Help". I'm not complaining, it's just there.

Yeah, I couldn't find a standard list of bloatware anywhere, so I asked a lot of people for input and went with what I thought was just the standard. If you look at the source code and go to that section, you'll see a BUNCH of other removal commands there, including get help.

When I update it, I'll move Get Help up to be included with the rest.

Eventually it's going to have shaders. I'm thinking metallic reflections and partial transparency using light refraction should be pretty cool. I also made sure it's super optimized, I'm not one of those tits that pushes out stuff that runs at 5 fps and calls it a day.

Considering any one over the age of 30 has seen multiple operating systems; some utter shit, some were awesome, i'd say back in the day makes sense here. My mom's computer has Windows 10 on it, and she hasn't said anything about any problems she may have had with it to me, nor have I encountered any problems with it whenever I've used her computer (that I can recall, anyway)

Gods, I loathe Windows 10. It forced itself on everyone who'd been using 7 and 8, it continues to try to force itself via automatic updates, some of which even break the system in some way, the bloatware is annoying as all get-out, and then there's the spyware thing. Saying "It's alright" really shows where the standard has fallen for a lot of people in the past decade or two.

Just because you managed to evade it doesn't mean MS didn't try. There was literally a big deal where the newer operating system tried to install itself, and a few tech sites reported ways to stop the upgrade.

Try Slackware, read the Slackbook documentation, and you'll be amazed how dead simple that OS is. Other distros try to be their own little Windows clone but Slackware is still just plain Linux.
