Nothing worse than a dry pizza, except maybe bread sticks, definitely sauce.

On the exterior, sure. But the bulk of it is a cheese, tomato, and whatever soup.

I LOVE IT MAN< I LOVE IT (Not tomato soup mind you, but just the cheese + sauce.

Yesterday I ate the top of the bread + sauce + cheese only on 2 sliced (they did burn the bottom, but it was yummy anyway.

Cheese is life (except my doctors says I can't eat much cheese anymore because of my stupid liver.......stupid liver, I love cheese, get better!!)

There's a restaurant called Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinders that makes pot pie pizza (the top of which is pizza crust) which you order by weight (1/4, 1/2 pound, etc.). The inside is liquid tomato sauce and cheese with pieces of veggies and meat floating in the liquid; it's served with the pot pie top on the bottom. Believe it or not, the pizza doesn't taste like cheesy tomato soup.

I mean, since i'm an expert on this subject.

Look, the cheese is important, it varies greatly in quality. A good cheese on pizza can be amazing all by itself with no toppings. I actually consider toppings to generally be used to mask a lack of flavor in the cheese and sauce.

But it's no where near a tomato soup, even when you get insane amount of cheese like I have.

First there is the difference between toasted cheese and just melted cheese. There is a world of difference in flavor if the top of the cheese is toasted/slightly brown, this is more true if it's a really good cheese. Even just melted/browned a really good cheese is delicious.

But the next step is the sauce, pizza sauce isn't just a plain tomato sauce, or it shouldn't be. It needs to be flavorful, and impactful, just a small amount of sauce can pack a ton of flavor.

The combo between a good sauce and a good cheese is so good that I can eat just that on good pizzas, without any crust/bread (although the top of the bread is the easiest way to get most of the sauce without too much bread).

Next up is the crust/bread, which can be a great addition (but is where sometimes even great pizzas go wrong...for me at least). I like my crust thin, super thin, then it adds a good texture, makes it easy to eat your pizza, and doesn't detract from the flavor of the sauce and cheese.

The problem is, alot of place use waaay to much dough, and even if they don't, many burn the bottom. Burnt flavor can ruin all the rest of the goodness.

I know place with good sauce and good choose, but they just ruin it with the crust (hence the eating the bread + cheese of the top part).

The best places put all 3 together without burning the crust, the sauce makes the crust wet and not dry, and the crust actually adds to the flavor instead of covering it up. It's so hard to find the best places though, even in NY there are 20 bad or meh pizza places for every GREAT one.

I search religiously anywhere I live for the best pizza. The best in my local area is Salamone's pizza, but there is a place about 2 1/2 hours away in lynnwood that is better (plan on taking a trip up there sometime soon to have it again).

I can't eat pizza much anymore......especially not if there is alot of crust (I can't eat the crusts on the end at all, but even the dough/crust under the cheese has to be thin), so I focus on only eating the absolute best pizza I can find.....generally just a few pieces per month.

I voted cheese. Mainly because I could probably still even it if other things were missing. But I couldn't without the cheese. Cheese is also one of my three favorite foods. Another is pizza.

I must have seen something else when I looked that up before. Don't remember it having a top crust or looking liquid.

at least for me, and my likings. the best part of pizza is all of it, I also like it when the cheese comes off by the crust, and there's a bit of sauce left while one eats the crust

But honestly I think every ingredient is important. Too much, or too little of any one thing, and the whole pizza is thrown out of whack.

Sauce by far.

The worst part is cheese. I hate melted cheese, and prefer as little of it as possible. In order for a pizza to be good, the sauce to cheese ratio has to be on point. If I'm doing the cooking, I also like to cook until the cheese turns a nice golden brown, which helps limit its flavor.

I like the toppings as well, but toppings usually mean less cheese.
