Someone posted a girl doing a banana eating one a long time ago (it was supposed to be a parody of existing ASMR videos). That video apparently blew up and got her a huge following.

Then I found out a few months ago that she's dead. She was going through all sorts of crazy crap, trying to get money at one point (doing some weird stuff), trying to fix her life at another, and then falling off track.

But on topic, I like ASMR, but the roleplay ones weird me out.

When I first heard of ASMR a long time ago I listened to a clip where it felt like you were in a barber shop, with like surround sound. it was pretty neat. that stuff is cool.

people talking gently into a microphone doesnt do anything for me. I don't like those ones.

I do like some of the older asmr from back in 2013 and even 14, with a couple good ones over the years. I don't like how viral it's gotten, as it's hard to find any good content. Before there was unique stuff like steampunk asmr and interesting roleplays.

I like it occasionally when it's actually asmr (which doesn't mean "talking quietly"). I even sometimes like the quiet whispering which I refuse to consider asmr.

There's a few on youtube that I tend to watch quite a bit of. I typically enjoy the medical videos the most.

I realized that I listened to ASMR 10+ years ago before it was a thing.

I don't think the video is on youtube anymore, it was a Pete Maravich dribbling skills homework video and it was just like 5 or 6 minutes of fast repetitive bouncing that went back and forth and around while he said a couple words in between stating what the motion was called and tips on how to dribble.

I had that thing on loop during the night in the background.

Can't remember if I learned about it here or via a listicle, but I sometimes listen to some of the binaural videos. A lot of the other stuff is just weird, borderline fetish shit. To some extent, the concept isn't much different from back when people used to listen to ambient noise cassettes (rain, wind, forest sounds, etc).
