Wait......is it free anywhere?

I think in SF there are free trollys you can hop on, but i'm not 100% sure of that (didn't live in SF, just near it...at least as an adult).

Free public transportation sounds like a freaking great idea I could get behind though.

Instead it's gone up in cost through the roof. It's 2.50 a pop per bus ride here, $5 if you want a freakiig transfer (but it can be used multiple times). That is just for normal buses, not long distance ones etc.

Here it's $2 per ride, or $4 for an all day unlimited pass, or $40 for an unlimited monthly pass

The bus here is $1 per ride. I think you can get monthly passes for less. It is rather limited though, unless you are going in or out of the city the bus isn't going to be very helpful. Plus bus stops are so spread apart you usually have to drive 5-10 minutes just to get to one.

I think it's $3 for a bus ride, with transfers being free and good for an hour and a half or so. Nothing catastrophic, plus I get a "free" (read: buried in ancillary fees but at a heavily reduced rate) bus pass as a student, but the buses here are so terrible that I never take them. To actually get to a route that would be useful for everyday transport I have to walk so far that I'm halfway there already, and even then they come so infrequently that walking the rest of the way will probably still be faster.

$3.25 per trip with a 90-minute transfer, $90 for a monthly pass. university students get them "free" (at a reduced rate as part of tuition; i guess the idea is that everyone pays for them whether they use it or not, which makes the cost lower)

Its really cheap here. It free for certain people, though. I think a normal adult all day pass is like $3. They also have a week and month pass, as well. The regular rides are cheaper. Like $1.50, I think. College folk, young kids, and seniors are even cheaper. Super young children ride for free. And people will certainly disabilities, or the really old folk can ride for free, too. And you can ride for free if you work there. But we dont have time off to ride them...
