And yet in the current version of the game fucking AMAZING shit happens all the time. Here's a player standing in the hanger of a ship being piloted by another player. This ship is currently engaged in a dogfight on a planets atmosphere and the player in the hanger has full control over their character. So what do they do but open up the hanger doors and shoot rockets at the attacking ship.

I mean this is just a small window into the awesome shit that's possible in this kind of game, that has literally never been possible in any other game of it's kind. I don't foresee any other game coming close to this level of interaction and freedom in a space sim in my lifetime.

It takes a very simple mind to look at something this fucking awesome and want to see it fail.

This, too. It's obviously a passion project and a lot of effort is going into its production, but it must be horribly, horribly mismanaged if they've spent so many millions of dollars and still haven't finished it.

History guarantees this game is going to suck ass and all of the donors will be filing class action lawsuits for false advertising. No game with such a long dev cycle has ever released anywhere remotely close to its garnered expectations.

You realize how much people spend on games like FIFA or Fortnite? Those numbers arent published and thats the terrifying part. Because people are out there legit losing their homes over this shit but we dont really talk about those games.

But if you can afford it who really fuckin cares what you spend your money on. Some dudes spend thousands on vertical ships. Some people spend hundreds of thousands on a motor home they use maybe 6 weekends a year.

Microtransactions are some of the most common complaints about video games in the modern era. We're finally starting to see some results from the constant protests. Battlefront II removed the predatory loot box system, Shadow of War removed its microtransactions altogether, laws are being made and passed to ban lootbox gambling, etc.

Star Citizen is just one of the most ridiculous examples of it. Charging $2,500 for a ship in a game that isn't even finished yet? Altering the refund policy because people were holding them to their word to release the game in a timely manner? That's scummy shit, right there.

The real problem that were going to inevitably see about this is when the game officially allows you to buy all these ships with the money you got in game. (I think you can right now but all the money and value is just placeholder)

But how much time investment is a $2500 ship (or more) really worth? Can you even quantity that.

Whatever it ends up being people are going to be upset. Either its going to be such an investment of time or it will trivialize how much money people really spent.

idk man. Im not here to fix the problems with companies charging this and that for digital properties. Im just saying at the end of the day theyre actually putting out a product that is objectively more impressive than anything thats existed yet. You email them and tell them scam artists. Here's the thing; It doesn't need to be that big. But as the donations kept rolling in, they set new stretch goals. They didn't have to. They could have set their line in the sand and stuck to it. But instead they decided to be ambitious, they decided that the more money they got, the game had to bigger. Lack of management.

So I read this topic before I got a chance to actually look at the link and I have to say that it really seems like TC is exaggerating things by quite a bit. That legit does look like something out of Sea of Thieves. Maybe there is a lot of context that's missing from the OP and the link in the OP that speaks to how impressive it is but it's definitely not obvious from what's been shown here.

jmo, I've never heard of this game before so I have no preconceived biases
