And goddamn, I can't believe how much I enjoyed it. I tried it a few years back and couldn't get through it, but it was different this time for some reason.

Does anyone know of any good interpretations of the Odyssey?

And also, any good ancient greek games. I'd prefer if they were action games(that aren't God of War).

I'm rather tired right now so the only thing springing to mind from recent times is:

Um... there's also... Apotheon. Rock of Ages (lol). There was a retro game... an NES game, Battle of Olympus? Not sure, and I barely remember it atm.

Played it and am in the process of playing it again lol

Love that freakin' game.

Apotheon ain't my style, but I forgot about Hades. I'll probably pick it up whenever the full version actually releases.

I'll have to look into the NES game.

Oh, it probably doesn't count, but the film O Brother, Where Art Thou? is very obviously a loose retelling of The Odyssey in a different setting/time period. There's also the play Hadestown, which is not of The Odyssey but it's a reimagined version of Orpheus and Eurydice.

Ergh, I should be coming up with more stuff but I'm really out of it right now lol. That's probably all I'm going to be able to think up. I could ask my mom what movies/plays/operas/etc she's seen dealing with The Odyssey, though.

Oh, there's Kid Icarus I guess but I wouldn't take that too seriously, lol.

There's a game called Spartan Total Warrior. I had the Gamecube version, but it was also on Xbox and PS2. I remember liking it, but it's from 2005, so I'm not sure how dated it is at this point.

Rome total war, crushing enemies mercilessly with hoplites.

Reminds me, great youtube mini-series retelling the rise of Alexander the great, and his bad ass dad. This video was about how he engineered weaponry and battle tactics to beat greek hoplites. Had to subjugate all of greece before subjugating Persia/Egypt/Pakistan lands.

It's definitely a movie that was way better than it had any right to be.

Depends on if you mean a literal version of it, or something that's more just inspired by it.

Off the top of my head, the only recent literal version of it I can think of is this one:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Odyssey_(miniseries)

I have no idea if it was good (I never watched it), but it does have a bit of the "low budget" feel of a made-for-TV movie, and you're talking about late 90s special effects (which usually look terrible now), so it might be too painful to watch.

It's pretty good. It definitely has its flaws, and it can feel a little grindy at times, but it's generally fairly well-balanced, allows you to play a few different ways as a player based on what style you prefer, and has a really good story and characters. And the landscapes are fantastic.

It's also open-world, so it allows you to drop in and out if you don't have time to do a ton of epic scenes or main story quests, but just want to murder a bunch of guys for a bit.

It's arguably not an ancient Greek game, though. Troy and a lot of "heroic era" Greek stuff takes place back in the Bronze Age, but Ass Creed is set in the Classical Era (about 800 years later, after Greek culture had radically changed). Depending on what someone is looking for, it might not scratch the itch.
