Board 8 > Gift for new Switch owner

My friend just bought a Switch. I don't own one. I have played literally zero Switch games (except those that are cross-platform.) Due to the sort of friendship we have, though, I want to buy her a game...or accessory. I'm trying to decide what I should get.

She bought:
The Switch (1 pair of Joycons)
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Untitled Goose Game
Animal Crossing (pre-order)
FF7R (pre-order)

That's a very appropriate pair of games for her. When I asked what else she thought she might get down the road, she seemed convinced she wasn't interested in the "other big party games" of Smash and...I forget what she thought the other one was. I countered with Splatoon and she said she might be interested.

Later in the game I asked the obvious: no Breath of the Wild? She seems convinced she won't like it. That she's "not good as Zelda games" and especially the combat. I pointed out this is a very different Zelda game, it's very exploration-heavy, and many are hyping it as the GOAT. I'm pretty convinced she won't get it for herself, but I *think* she'll like it if she starts playing it. Maybe not, though.

Barring that, SMO is probably a solid choice. I didn't bring it up, and I'm sure she would also point out that she's "not good as platformers" (which is bullshit, but she mentions it every time I ask if she wants to try AHIT or Ori.)

She lives with another woman and her daughter. I don't know how often there will be more than 2 people playing, but another simple obvious choice is to get another pair of Joycons. My friend mostly bought the system to keep up with her online friends and to have a new system that can go mobile, so that's not high priority *for her*, but when we played MK8 last night, I know I found playing with a single joycon very uncomfortable for my hands, so if nothing else I'd value having a "larger" controller to hold.

Other options? Am I missing anything?

Odyssey is a pretty solid choice that you can't go wrong with, and also the only thing on the poll that she didn't explicitly say she doesn't want, so why is this even a poll?

Odyssey is the best switch game and not a tough platformer. You can get through the entire game just messing around

Super Mario Odyssey is absolutely amazing and shouldnt be too difficult for her either

Pro controller so you can play with her and not use the garbage standard joycons

As weird as it sounds I think I'd be happiest if I was gifted a second pair of joycons. With drifting issues, even with the diy fixes, it would just be nice to have a second pair while sending the first off for maintenance. I just can't seem to bring myself to pay that much for a second pair though, which is why receiving them as a gift would be great.

Sorry, no. Thank you. She pre-ordered that and then told me about the AC and I just blended them together.

I mean, you can tell I wrote the post quickly. At one point I said "later in the game" when I meant later in the night. I'm full of errors. I hope my choice won't end up being one.

An extra set of joy cons is the best option. It'd be pretty uncool to get a gift from someone when you've already implied or even outright stated you don't want it.

Bought SMO, and a wired third-party controller as a cheap option. Will see friend later today. On Discord, she was like "oh, you're coming over? While I'm out, do you want me to buy Breath of the Wild so you have something to do?"

Nah, she meant it like, "Hey, since you're coming over, want me to buy zelda so it's here? You can play it while you're over, keeping me company." (She was working on some craft projects at the time.)

Last time I heard someone of one sex giving a video game to someone of another sex as a gift, they were banging soon thereafter. Oh and the recipient totally had a significant other too. Then the recipiant totally had two or more significant others for several years.
