Youd be wrong in youre assessment that no one said Catwoman sucked just because she was a woman. Not much else to say but that.

Catwoman is a bit different because it's not so much the viewers, but the producers and stockholders ABSOLUTELY blame that on a female lead.

This movie legit makes me sad every time I see something about it.

It's super strange. I have no investment in it and I already wrote it off when I read the script synopsis, but each time I see some kind of advertisement I just feel some kind of sadness for what could have been.

It also might be because Harley Quinn is an absolutely amazing show that does a great job with the characters and each time I see weirdo Margot Robbie being a thing that I guess could be considered Harley Quinn maybe, it's just sad.

Eh, I think it's a very weak adaptation of Harley and just a bizarre choice in appearance. I don't feel like the character has anything there to her and the script doesn't lend to there being too much more.

There's a reason there were no female-led superhero movies for over a DECADE between Elektra and Wonder Woman, and why the MCU took so long to have female-led movies (former Marvel Entertainment CEO Ike Perlmutter somehow believed that every movie had to have a white male lead to sell, and Captain Marvel only got greenlit on his watch because Kevin Feige begged him to do it maybe).

Margot Robbie is just not a huge draw. She's fantastic but just doesn't have "it" yet.

Plus DC has done no favors to the character with stuff like Suicide Squad

I actually didnt realize it was R-rated and I read that's probably a major factor. Kids can't see it and Harley is big but not a Joker or Deadpool type draw. Sucks.

The marketing did it no favors.

Regardless of the actual quality of the movie (I'm not gonna know anytime soon) and how it's reviewing, literally every single iota of prerelease marketing looked like absolute dog shit. There was never a point in time where this movie looked like it even had a chance at being decent. Hell, this topic itself was created on the basis of "Wow, I can't beleive this might actually be good!"

I dunno I thought the trailer was fun enough but like I stated earlier the idea of having a hyena in the movie is cool to me

Suice Squad sucked, but that Harley outfit completely blew up. And honestly, it's pretty great! That's how you change things up from the norm while still keeping the core of a character. Compare it to the total garbage Harley design from the New 52 just a few years prior that was trying to do the same thing.

That design is not what they were copying. They were using the design introduced in 2013 and used in the 2014 series.

"Bomb" isn't really an appropriate term for a movie that, based on early returns, might break even eventually. That being said, it's absolutely a major box office disappointment.

Hard disagree. The 2013 look is trying to capitalize on the Arkham series. The Suicide Squad look was largely dropped.

The Suicide Squad New 52 comic look was a failed attempt to modernize Harley Quinn. The Suicide Squad movie look is a successful attempt to modernize the Harley Quinn, which I still recognize even as someone who prefers the classic. There's no connection there outside name and what they were trying to do.

The Amanda Connor look is apeing some off the Arkham style, and mixing it in with the classic. I don't think it's as successful as the SS movie, but it's still a halfway decent design. The problem with that is I don't think it looks good unless Connor is doing it.

I have no idea what Harley looks like on comics today.

OK. Yes. You are right. Not only that, but I agreed with you in the first place. You are still misunderstanding what I was saying.

It was ok, not boring like Justice League or Batman vs Superman but didnt really seem to find much of an identity. Like it was a nice meta movie with Harley but the Birds of Prey characters all just felt kinda thrown in

marketing should have focused on the egg sandwich
