It's a remote caucus for Iowa state residents currently living in Florida (so old, retired, and rich) so I wouldn't take that as indicative of Bernie support at all. It's just funny.

Kind of interesting for that demographic and for Florida, though!

Like - all the dire warnings the House managers have been giving about how this will set a new precedent that the President is above the law - do they want that precedent? If they didn't want it why did they bring this loser of a case?

Every prosecutor should know - the worst thing you can do is indict when you have no hope of convicting. A person who has been tried and acquitted is not returned to the position he was in before the trial. No, he is now immune from being tried again for the same crime.

If the House managers believe this trial has conferred immunity on the President to do whatever he wants, they have done that themselves with their own hands and their own words.

Trump is NOT extremely conservative. I can understand how it might look that way from the far left, but there are miles and miles and miles of open road to the right of Trump on the large majority of the issues. The only one he actually has a right wing stance on is immigration.

We both work in the Health Insurance industry. In our geographic area between the major insurers, there are about 10,000 people who are employed by the various insurance companies, as 3 of the big 5 have locations here (this also isn't including the people who work for smaller private practice doctors offices who would lose their jobs under M4A). If 10,000 people within a 50 mile radius lose their jobs all in a similar time period, there aren't enough jobs in other areas to go around. There are plenty of other things that we could both do, but the odds of both of us getting jobs that pay the same or better than we do now when there are hundreds of people going for those same jobs are extremely low.

As I said before, I tend to side with the right on economic issues, and the left on social issues. In simple terms, even if Trump is extremely far to the right (which I don't think he is, especially compared to how far left Bernie is), Bernie is just the same on the left, so I'm going to choose the one that doesn't destroy everything my wife and I spent the last decade of our lives trying to build for ourselves and our children. I know, what I'm saying probably sounds asinine to you like it does to almost every one of Bernie's supporters that I've talked to about this, but those are my feelings and it's okay that I have them, just like it's okay that you support Bernie.

But everyone knows he's a liar. And he's been trying to court people on the far right to vote for him all this time. But he courts people in the center by saying that he'll keep social security, that Planned Parenthood does good things when it's not going abortions, that he wants tariffs to bring back the jobs, etc. These are all in direct opposition to the mainline Republican position for the last 20 years.

The Trump administration as a whole is pretty far right on those social and political issues though because the man himself is content to let the GOP run the show for the most part. Does that not factor into this at all?

The right's economic policy is demonstrably "cut taxes for the rich at the expense of the poor and what's left of the middle class" and "cut spending on social safety nets and the like with the express intent of fucking over the poor (and minorities that are disproportionately poor)"

What do you support about it?

And yeah, Trump tries to make sure that he himself is indispensable. He's put the Republican Party into a box of supporting him or admitting they were wrong about him and getting blown out at the next election. He's put people in the center into a box of either supporting him or getting either a far right religious ideologue or a far left socialist. He appoints incompetent people with no experience in their appointed fields to lead departments, so that we will not get strong, independent, leadership, in the departments, but rather everything will depend on Trump.

Trump is very very very good at this.

Not really. I think the GOP spends more time trying to keep Trump happy so they dont lose his base than they do running the show. Most of them seem to be spineless yes men/women right now.

I will admit that there is still a chance I would vote Bernie over Trump, and thats due to the environment. Trump doesnt care about that at all, and I want my girls to be able to lead a full life that isnt cut short because of some kind of climate disaster. If that is the matchup Id be doing a lot of digging into that stuff before making a final decision one way or another, but I can cross that bridge another day.
