I guess that's true but Bayonetta's reveal trailer was at the end of the presentation while Corrin's was at the start and Bayonetta has a higher fighter number than Corrin. So I would consider Bayonetta being after Corrin.

the gen 8 pokemon should be Sirfetch'd. and then the fighter pack that includes him should also include a bunch of gen 8 pokemon as pokeball mons

If those are Pokemon being added to the Pokeball item, I think that should be a free patch to avoid weird interactions between players who have and don't have Sirfetch'd.

I thought the patches always contained the DLC characters, it's just whether or not you're able to play as them.

Otherwise, wouldn't there be a lot of problems when it comes to online play?

Yeah, DLC in games like this is always patched in, and then what you download from the DLC itself is an "unlock" code.

They have to do that so you're able to fight against the characters online.

The gen 8 rep is almost definitely Cinderace but if it's not it will probably be Inteleon or Toxtricity. Rillaboom is too close to DK.

The Gen8 starters have been mostly rejected, right? As far as final evos go, at least. I definitely feel like it's considered one of the weakest batches.

The decision for this dlc would probably have been made before the reaction to the Pokmon was known, so it may not matter.

I hope they go for a non-starter. Like half the. playable pokemon arent starters, so its not unreasonable that they would pick something else.

Toxtricity is pretty popular and it has an event Gigantamax form coming some time in the future, so it's possible they could try pushing it as the new Lucario. I haven't paid any attention to if it's getting a notable merchandising effort or anything yet.

Yeah Toxtricity is one of my favourite new Pokemon, would be a pretty cool choice (not holding my breath though, probably just going to be Cinderace)

Seen the Byleth trailer just now and gave it the deserves thumbs down
But after seeing Sakurai counting in binary and explaining it and his overall charm and happiness, I felt bad for the thumbs down

But still, terrible character choice aside...the cinematic itself was very anti-hype. Showing the revealed character from the beginning and it was so...boring

It's too bad Snom and Falinks can't work as fighters

There is also a problem that recent Smash characters are all...complex
Even Pokemon like Zacian that could totally work as a regular fighter would be super boring compared to the Ultimate DLC characters

Edit - actually thinking about it more, maybe it can work as a 2-character gimmick by also including Zamazenta
One is a glass cannon and the other is a tank and you need to switch between them depending on thr situation and match up

Another issue for Pokemon is that the selection has been made before the games came out. At best we can look at which Pokemon the creators have been pushing. The Pokemon will likely Gigantamax.

If it's not the starters my money would be on Hatterene, Grimmsnarl or Toxtricity (to coincide with when its form is revealed).

I have a theory that Byleth was meant to be the first character of Season 2, but was brought forward to be the final character of Season 1 because the planned character, who would have been a third party due to the pattern established by all the other Season 1 characters and the statement that the DLC characters would all be from series that haven't been in Smash before, ran into issues which caused the character to either be delayed to Season 2 or cancelled entirely. As a result, someone had to be brought forward as a last minute replacement for them, and Byleth was chosen because, as the planned first character of Season 2, he was the furthest into development. If Season 2 consists of all Nintendo characters, with the exception of one guest, I'll assume they're the character Byleth switched places with.

If December 2021 arrives without a Smash trailer that includes the phrase "Master Chief finishes the fight!", I riot.

As extraordinarily underwhelmed as I am by Byleth, Sakurai has more than made up for it with the rest of the additions so I'll let it slide.

This is actually something people have been purposely misquoting. Reggie's exact quote is "These are characters that are new to the series." He doesn't say "new worlds" or "series new to Smash" like people are saying.
