Yeah. I don't like Last Jedi but I'd put it over the prequels, especially Phantom Menace.

prequels and Rise of Skywalker have their flaws, shit loads of them

But Last Jedi is completely devoid of entertainment and any semblance of a compelling story.

This
+a string of coincidences that goes beyond the normal string of coincidences into ludicrous territory (made even worse by later movies)
+dumb plot holes that show the writers just didn't care about their own script
+the entire existence of SKB being a wasted plotline
+JJ Abrams again proving he doesn't understand emotional stakes
+We already watched this movie like 40 years ago
+ EDIT: CAN'T BELIEVE I FORGOT THE ENTIRE MOVIE IS RIFE WITH JJ'S AWFUL MYSTERY BOX BULLSHIT THAT IS POISON TO A COMPELLING NARRATIVE

I hate TLJ but it's actually in the middle 50% of the series for me >_> The other two ST movies, TPM, and AOTC are all worse. And ROTS is on notice.

It reeeeeeally didn't.

The entire movie is about hunting for Luke and then at the end, they find Luke. Cliffhanger. Next movie becomes about what Luke's gonna do.

That's not passing the torch lmao.

Passing the torch is not the point of star wars. Did the prequels do that? Did the OT?

I guess they did... but ST didn't do it right.

It introduced Rey, Finn, Poe, and Kylo Ren. That was the point of the movie. Not the stupid plot.

Finn, a former Stormtrooper turned good guy, and Kylo, an immature and conflicted dark side user, are brand new types of characters for the franchise. Rey had her mysterious backstory and Snoke had his. The sequels couldve done something more interesting with them, but TFA planted the seeds as well as it could.

I still dont very like The Last Jedi but I appreciate it some more after the mess of The Rise of Skywalker.

Like I enjoyed TROS a lot more but I can see how TLJ is a more competent film despite the bastardization of some characters and story decisions.

At this point I'd say they're all equally bad. TFA recycled the OT and wrote the trilogy into a corner by forcing it to follow the same "underdog rebels against an evil empire" formula.

TLJ is bad for a lot of reasons, mostly just wasting what resources the previous movie had in order to go off on its own direction.

RoS is bad for not just owning the status quo TLJ gave us and trying to cram two TFA sequels into one movie.

My least favorite is actually TFA. TLJ is a "love to hate" movie, and RoS has Ian McDiarmid to carry it's contrived, desperate, saving throw of an ending. But TFA is just flat boring. It actively undoes previously established world-growth to tell the exact same story we've already seen. It is a microcosm of everything wrong with "technically competent, but shallow" blockbusters.

That's not what I meant about passing the torch.

PT had a large part dedicated to apprentices.
OT had Obi-Wan and Yoda teaching Luke to pass down their knowledge.

ST was supposed to be about that. The return of the Jedi. Why were they already dead again at the start of the trilogy? Why was the new republic destroyed without us being invested in it?

Yes. I mean, even the Holiday Special had points where I'd look back, point and laugh at. No such thing there.

Granted, I haven't watched the most recent one. But to tell the truth? Just by virtue of the sheer amount of apathy I have for the series at this point, the entirety of TROS could be 3 hours of Jar Jar making fart noises nonstop and I would still rate it better than TLJ.

Luke training Rey was supposed to do that, but Rian Johnson wrote that idea on a piece of paper and wiped his ass with it.

Im not saying its a great movie, but it made me like and care about these new characters almost immediately. The last two movies deserve the blame for wasting them.

What you're saying would be fine if The Force Awakens was the very first star wars movie ever. But do you know why it's called the sequel trilogy? Because it was supposed to follow the trend that the original trilogy and prequel trilogy started by starring characters related (storyline related, not necessarily by blood or family) to the previous episodes. We should have witnessed the culmination of all three trilogies in the ST. Not something that feels detached or remade.

Rey, Finn, Poe etc are all decent enough characters that should have been in a spin-off trilogy.

Im not even sure what point youre arguing anymore. I was talking about TFA as a standalone movie. The main characters of that movie are Rey, Finn, and Kylo. The sequel trilogy was their spinoff trilogy.

If youre saying that they shouldve reunited the OT cast in TFA, then I agree wholeheartedly. That was the biggest missed opportunity there.

But even so, I dont see how any of the sequel movies are as dull as episodes 1 or 2.

I said deny, The Force Awakens is the worst Star Wars movie.

You said you don't understand why I say this.

I quoted @stoltenberg11

You argue the point of star wars is to pass the torch to new characters.

I argue that the point of the sequel trilogy is to be directly related to the previous trilogies.

You replied by saying Rian Johnson ruined the potential set up by JJ Abrams in episode VII. (This is where the conversation begins to stagnated because you ignored what I said about how the sequel trilogies should have been)

I validate how you feel, but emphasize once more that the Sequel Trilogy never should have started out this way.

Basically, TFA is the worst Star Wars movie because it immediately ruined the potential for the ST.

Disney did not tell the story fans have been anticipating to see for the sequels.
