Money can sure as hell buy happiness. There have even been studies proving this point.

Money doesnt buy happiness. Uh, do you live in America? Cause it buys a WaveRunner. Have you ever seen a sad person on a WaveRunner? Have you? Seriously, have you? Try to frown on a WaveRunner. You cant!

What people really mean is that money can't buy most of the things that really matter, or should matter.

That is not to say superficial things can't make one happy. Often times they do, and money can buy those things.

In terms of quality of life or materialism, money does buy happiness, but only up to a certain amount of it. Then it just makes life more stressful in different ways.

When you talk about it in terms of people, or sentiment, money can't really beat that. You can't put a price on a feeling that you get from being deeply in love with your spouse, or seeing your child grow up before your eyes.

Money payed for those studies so what do you expect them to say? Like a drug company doing a drug study you think they would say their drug doesnt work? No they will say it is 1000 x as effective as their last model. Their last model was 0% effective and 1000x0 still equals 0 but they arent technically lying.

The problem is many keep wanting more and more money. You really need to have a point where its "enough." Where you won't take on more work despite already making more them enough.

Many people blow through their money instantly. They have no self control.

That is the key to happiness that one has the most control over. Have modest goals and expectations. If you set your goals and desires too high or constantly ramp them up or change them you will never be.

I suppose happiness is ultimately entirely dependent on ones attitude(and ones body being in condition for it to be physically possible to be happy.) but obviously pretty much anyone will he heavily influenced by their health, environment and peers.

IMO greed is fucking terrible for your happiness. If you always want more and more how can you ever be happy?

But yes money can make happiness easier because it can eliminate a great deal of stress from your life. A greedy person is probably comparatively happy to a dirt poor person who genuinely is uncertain if they will have a home or food next week and has various untreated chronic health issues.

But a person content with a stable yet modest lifestyle is probably happier then some rich CEO working 100 hours a week.

"Money can't buy happiness" is a lesson that rich people need to learn, not poor people. Rich people have too much money and nothing meaningful to strive for, poor people have the most important things in the world to strive for and no money.

The more money you have, the bigger your bills and the more money you paying and needing even more and saying you just need a bit more to really be happy.

Happiness comes from inside. Being hungry without shelter may impede happiness, but once you have that, you don't need much else.
You can be content if contentment is in you.

Which means the money is indeed not a part of the equation. A man with less can be immensely happier than one with triple what he has.

Yeah and having money easily facilitates the ability for someone to start a family. Seriously what's with all of the sad sap movies where the rich people are oh so poor because they don't know how to form social bonds i.e dating, friendships? It's such a crock of shit.

There's very rarely a relationship of any kind that forms on the basis of genuine interest and we should really all just get over that. We want to be friends with people because of what they can offer us, and we want to date people because of how they will increase our status. It's a basic instinct reaction.

How about some sad sap movie where a father has to work for 12 hours a day just to scrape by at the skin of his knees for his household just so he can come home to an unhappy family that can't afford anything due to the awful work culture of the US?

Cause' real life doesn't sell.

Money doesnt buy happiness but it definitely makes things a lot easier if you are indeed dealing with real depression. ie. You have the financial security where you can then focus on the depression and not have the stress of bills and living expensese piled up on top of it

Its interesting though because like you said, as people earn more, their tastes become more expensive and their bills get bigger and bigger. I definitely fell into that trap at one point. and i see it all around me, hell even during Christmas I was talking to my cousins about a restaurant they went to where they ended up paying $400 for their meal.

I see it with girls, they always looked perfectly fine but then when they get their first "real job" they start getting into makeup, spending $$$$ on expensive makeup products, get their hair and nails did regularly. The more they earn, the more they spend on the stuff.

I see it with guys, when they get their first 'real job' they all of a sudden feel that they have to buy a new car. Most of they time they also feel the need to be driving a euro car and feel above Japanese cars or used cars.

I think its a subconscious mentality where you have to justify to yourself and maybe even others why you are working all those hours or why you are earning all that money.
