Toxtricity 12/26/19 8:51:07 AM #53:	I wouldn't be happy with 128...i think a lot of why i enjoyed the pool of the last vgmc was because of the stuff that was only able to be in because the pool was larger. I'd be willing to help with running if it meant we could continue to have 192-256 because i really don't want to regress back to 128 personally also, I don't think more matches a day is really that big of a deal. its not that much more daunting to listen to an extra song every day to be able to have a larger pool, most people vote in optional sidebracket and bonus matches and stuff, so it doesn't feel like it'd even actually lengthen the contest having a larger bracket, just the number of songs listened to in one day. <cite>Toxtricity posted [p:932072091] in azuarc ran... It really isn't any extra work to run more matches in a day. If anything it makes my job easier because the contest doesn't last as long. But I don't think it's an outcome that everyone will appreciate. Even when talking about having 3 matches a day instead of 2, there were plenty of people who weren't very happy with that. And speaking for myself, what happens when I'm listening for VGMC, I'm listening impatiently because I'm just doing my duty of listening to a song so I can say if I enjoyed it more than the other. The result is that aggressive, catchy, more up-tempo songs almost automatically get my vote in the contest unless there's a considerable gap in quality. I feel like if you make the time commitment to the contest longer per day, that this becomes even more the case. Maybe that's just a personal problem, but I find I'm doing hat any time I'm trying to compare songs. Which, incidentally, is why I'm taking my time in pre-listening to the songs for the ranking topic now. I'm going to try to give myself as much exposure to them as I can before I start legit rating them, and then I'll move at my own pace. Two matches @ 256 would be ideal with me but that's an over four month long contest period so that's quite the burden on the host. If we went up to 4 matches a day. I mean, I'm usually still reading topics or articles or whatever but if I zone out completely I consider that a bad sign and will sometimes even replay the song from the beginning. One of the big problems with VGMC in general is that fact that most people are evaluating the music in each match based on their first, maybe second, listen, in the first round. As everyone should know, it takes multiple listens over a period of time for music to grow on you. (also, sometimes you get excited about some songs on your first listen, but then afterwards you realize you don't like it that much) I came up with an idea a couple of months ago: I would be happy to assist with this problem by posting a weekly pre-voting VGMC playlist in the results topic. For example, a week before the contest begins I will create a Youtube playlist with only the music for the first seven days of the contest. I would then keep doing this every week until all the first round matches are done. Then hopefully most users will listen through the music a couple of times. beforehand, even if it just plays in the background as they do other activities. Sure, you could say creating a 192/256-sized playlist of all the music could accomplish the same thing...however, I think it is less convenient and less helpful to do it that way. Of course, having a full list is definitely helpful, as well! But... man. I don't like the idea of anyone voting when they aren't giving their full attention to the music...unless they can easily tell which music they like more, of course. --- "Ah, a party! It's days like those when I welcome the sub-3 minute songs and dread the appearance of uploads with length exceeding 5:59. 2 matches feels like the sweet spot for me, because it tends to be ~15 minutes of listening and 4 songs is about how many I can have floating around in my head for when I review the day and comment on its matches. I might feel less exhausted by 3 or 4 matches if each "day" ran for 48 hours, but new topics still went up every 24 hours. With 5 extra votes that must be on unique songs, you can basically save 5 songs that are on the cusp of getting in, but you're still relying on getting a couple supports just like with a non-doubled nom. It only does a little bit for song diversity because the songs that got in thanks to a double would have been close to getting in anyway. If it was something like 2 triples or 1 quadruple, you'd have more power to save a few overlooked songs instead of having it spread out over 5 of them. Another way would be to allow 5 extra votes that can be distributed however you like, so you'd have the option of giving +5 to a single song or +3 to one song and +2 to another. Also - giving my personal opinion as to 'how do you listen to songs in VGMC', I put them on and listen to them in the background.
