The Netflix series is based on the books. The games kinda sorta are I think, but the author of the books hates the games

You can watch it. It's easier to understand if you played the games before, but it is still awesome and able to be watched without it.

Games are good, but I would recommend listening to the first audio book, and the second if you find yourself with the time. They are a series of short stories and each episode (I've only watched the first two so I can't confirm this fully) seems to be based off of a short story in terms of what Geralt is doing.
