Five episodes in, and you know what? I think the Edge of Extinction segments are my favorite parts of each episode. I think it's only because we've got such great people there, but it feels like such classic Survivor. Not because it mostly has pre-20 people, but because it feels like the survival struggle and disparate personalities stranded in the middle of nowhere who dig deep against themselves and their limits to persevere. The lack of tribals and strategy helps, and the challenges they offer are a lot more basic and not "physical challenge, teamwork obstacle, puzzle finish" that seems to be every challenge. It's those confessionals. Those up close confessionals talking about survival and their lives outside the game and narrating the struggles. It feels like Borneo/Australia era documentary-style naration and its wonderful. Who knew Amber "Oh my god, it's so good" Brkich would be such a great and personable narrator? Ethan is incredible as always. Natalie. NATALIE. NATALIE. <3

Sandra looking vulnerable, Yul/Sophie looking stronger, Adam is... late-game spoiler? I don't even know what his edit is. 4th place redemptive arc? Michele picking up some steam. Parvati, Kim, Nick, Wendell get nada.

That was rough.... Tyson was one of my favs.

Easily my most desired EoE returnee now, damn.

Tonight's EOE felt too contrived for me.

Not the players themselves, just the "do something exhausting" and then they pass out and now it's a moment. They basically gave the players a really taxing challenge -- no surprise they become gassed.

Yeah that seemed like a particularly grueling challenge for one single fire token. Maybe if it were for a straight-up full-power idol upon returning to the game, but for a fire token... yeesh.

This feels like a series of scenes that would be PERFECT for online-only extra content. Bonus scenes that flesh out the bigger game, but isnt taking up time from the players actually... yknow... surviving.

I like the EOE scenes, but I'd rather watch them as secret scenes on my own time. For the limited hour we get, I'd rather see more color commentary on the upcoming vote/tribe dynamics and such

41/42 update:

While it's already been mentioned that EoE is officially out for both 41 and 42, it seems fire tokens will indeed be back. Furthermore, with the coronavirus situation, filming (and consequently airing) could be delayed.

Thank God for Bopper & Mark keeping this season watchable.

Brendon & Rachel actually aren't quite as bad as I remember them being. They're still bad, but have enough episodes/moments where they aren't bad that I'll probably slap a purple on them and keep them out of my bottom 2.

Art & JJ weren't THAT bad for the first half of the season (they were nowhere near likable but not like, all-time bottom 5 bad), which made me think I may have been overhating them in the past due to everyone else hating them, but no, they took a nose dive in episode 7 and have only gotten worse since then.

The winners are tough to stomach, especially knowing they win, but at least I was expecting them to be bad.

Vanessa & Ralph are probably my second-favorite team and that's a damning indicator of just how badly this one leans on the Kentucky boys. I may not put it in dead last, but it's bottom 5 for sure.

Yeah, I was worried about Sandra, but I forgot she has an idol. If Tony actually gets PUNISHED for trying to play the social game instead of running around and hunting for idols...holy shit that's the worst.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I hope it's a combined tribal next week. I have a hard time seeing Denise/Jeremy/Kim/Tony beat Wendell/Yul/Whichever two of Michele, Nick and Parvati compete in a challenge. At least a combined tribal gives Tony a chance to survive.

There will be two people voted out next episode. Probst said "both tribes will vote someone out," not "go to tribal council." And even if that's still 1% ambiguous, we still need to boot two more people by the merge, which should be the episode after next.
