TAR12/13 effectively saved the franchise. Time will tell if TAR31 does the same.

well they just brought back literally 5 of its teams for season 18 (four of whom placed 8th through last!)

i remember liking the 7th placers a decent amount. and their crazy footrace victory in the first episode (i think that was s14?!)

And yeah there was a footrace in the first episode. And actually I'm not sure off the top of my head the exact placements of the 7th-10th place teams.

Honestly, "same old Tony" is just about the last thing I'm hoping for from him. He was a legend the first time and a fantastic flameout the second time, but 3.0 will be overkill.

15 is low-meh/high-bad range. I remember loving 16 but Sucks talks about it like a horror story and that combined with my other changed opinions so far has me dreading it (although the same was true for 9 and my opinion on that one maintained so).

17 and 18 are good, yes.

19 is in the same boat as 15. 20 is in the running for worst season.

21 is decent. Underrated/over-hated. 23 is bad. 24 is a shitshow. 26 is surprisingly passable given the theme/twist. 28 is bad.

I've already rewatched the other seasons in the 20s.

So for those of you insistent that people like me criticizing the direction Survivor has taken over the last few years are being over-dramatic and need to shut up and enjoy the show, here's a little something for you - if Probst gets his way (and he probably will), EoE will likely become a permanent part of the show, or at least continue into 41 and 42.

You obviously don't know Probst at all then. The dude cannot take criticism and insists that his ideas are good, even when they are overwhelmingly rejected by the viewers. He's a magnificent host. I don't think I could watch the show with anyone but him as host. But as executive producer he's fixated on his own ideas and believes that anyone who wants the old days back (which is a majority of the longtime fans) is wrong. I'd honestly respect it more if he just said "I know people don't like this, but it's my show and we're doing it my way." Instead he's got an almost Trump-like mentality saying that his crap is what the people want and the people rejecting him are in the minority, when that couldn't be further from the truth.

I was gonna say I didn't think Probst was executive producer when Redemption Island was a thing, but it looks like he actually got promoted right before it.

Although RI did come back for BvW and was supposed to come back again for SJDS before being replaced with the loved one duels, and Probst has openly expressed that he's not opposed to bringing it back yet again.

Yeah I noticed that, the lack of an opening song was really egregious. I know in the past they basically cut out the song but would at least give us like, a little something and the shot of the logo. And before that the shots of the castaways and their names, but this took it to another level.

...but the completely unnecessary "sneak peek" snippets at the beginning of episodes was the worst change of all, like I would always fast forward them because it was just so damn unnecessary. I'm already watching your show, you don't need to give a vague-but-still-spoilery snippet of what I'll be seeing in the near future, damn it.

Yeah these are teh suck. TAR tried this shit one season and immediately realized it was stupid.

yeah there were plenty of underwhelming teams but there were also some good moments that season (and the best team is less painful to see eliminated as they got a 2nd chance)

Considering the two best teams have not returned, nope.

I'm about halfway through 16 so far and it's.. eh. I see why Sucks (or anyone for that matter) hates it, even if I don't think it's that bad.
