NYPD officer in Tennessee got a slap on the wrist after he broke into a Black womans home, called her and her sons the N-word and threatened to hurt them. Despite the egregious nature of his offense, Michael J. Reynolds was only set to spend a couple of weeks in jail for terrorizing Conese Halliburton and her four sons in Nashville.

As many horror stories start out nowadays, an Airbnb was involved. Reynolds was renting one for a friends bachelor party in September when, according to the Tennessean, he began kicking in the front door of [Halliburtons next door] 12 South-area home and charging in in the middle of the night. Video surveillance taken from a neighbors RING camera showed Reynolds screaming and threatening the family and using racial slurs.

After the break-in, Halliburton said that her dogs tried to bite Reynolds but that he would not be deterred.

He kept coming down the hall, she said. Nothing was holding him back. He was like, This is my mother fing house before the surveillance footage showed Reynolds threatened them with racist, physical violence.

Try to shoot me, and Ill break every fing bone in your fing neck, Reynolds said before calling them fucking n------.

Reynolds was not arrested until days later even though Halliburton called 911 and police arrived after the NYPD cops illegal, racist and violent outburst.

Despite those facts, Reynolds was sentenced to just two weeks in jail and three years probation. he was suspended for 30 days from his job, and although he had been decommissioned, he was still employed as a police officer in New York City as of Dec. 6.

And cops are always like.. "why don't people like us" or "it is the media that gets people to dislike us". No it is this bullshit. If this one cop did that and you others cops arrested him then and then he did time like everyone else that would be one thing . But that didn't happen, he broken into a home's home and talked about hurting them, in the middle of the night, woman , pets, children . And the courts treat it like it nothing.

Looks like he pretty much got the punishment the crime deserves. I dont know what the current punishment for saying a word is but I think a couple weeks in jail and years of probation is plenty enough.

So you boil down breaking into someone home, and threatening to the a family bodily harm to just saying a word ?

I'm not familiar enough with the law to know what the proper jail time would be for breaking into a home and threatening a family. It seems low to me, but this only a gut feeling and those are rarely correct.

What is ridiculous is that he still works as a cop.

Under New Yorks laws, a person commits burglary (also called burglary in the third degree) by entering a building without permission, with the intent to commit a crime inside.

The crime of burglary occurs as soon as the defendant enters into the building with the illicit intent, even if the intended crime never occurs. Oftentimes, the defendant can also be convicted of committing or attempting the intended crime.

Under New York law he committed a Class D felony.

(a) A person commits burglary who, without the effective consent of the property owner:
(1) Enters a building other than a habitation (or any portion thereof) not open to the public, with intent to commit a felony, theft or assault;
(2) Remains concealed, with the intent to commit a felony, theft or assault, in a building;
(3) Enters a building and commits or attempts to commit a felony, theft or assault; or
(4) Enters any freight or passenger car, automobile, truck, trailer, boat, airplane or other motor vehicle with intent to commit a felony, theft or assault or commits or attempts to commit a felony, theft or assault.

(c) Burglary under subdivision (a)(1), (2) or (3) is a Class D felony.

Under TN law he broke the law.

Class D Felony Sentencing The sentencing possibilities for a non-violent Class D felony are no prison time (with probation) or a sentence ranging from one to three years at the low end, to up to seven years at the high end. Sentencing for a Class D violent felony is anywhere from two to seven years in prison.

In NYC, no jail time is a possibility but breaking, entering and threatening seems reasonably violent to me so *shrugs*

In Tennesee:

A class D felony is punishable by two to 12 years imprisonment, and a fine of up to $5,000.

In Tennessee he would be in jail for at least two years.

So pray tell why this mother fucker isn't in jail somewhere for longer than a slap on the wrist?

He broke the law in Tennessee. So he should be in a prison in TN

You think that 2-12 years thing is like legit required has to no way around it? Yikes.

and he was probably more of

  • Class E felony: 1 to 6 years and a maximum fine of $3,000.
That one.....get a year...spend a couple weeks in jail a few years probation and that equals out right.

(d) Burglary under subdivision (a)(4) is a Class E felony.

So he entered a house, not their vehicle, which Class E applies to those breaking and enterings.

Could it probably be downgraded to an E? Probably, if not likely.

But by legal definition, its a D

So my post containing an "anti-white slur" got moderated, as I was expecting. NKL, thank goodness, but it made some sort of effect to get modded like that and the mod handling the message told me "don't make racist comments".

If my comment mentioning a popular condiment and a dry wheat-based consumable in regards to whiteness is offensive enough for people to mark it and for it to be modded, I would think that those same people who marked it can agree that it's highly inappropriate and offensive for a police officer to barge into a person's house, threaten to hurt them and call them the n word. As the occurrence is much more serious, and the terminology is a lot more far-reaching and impactful than the dumb horseshit I was talking about.

I would also hope that we can agree that this cop deserves to get fired for breaking into a person's house unprovoked, yelling a racial slur at them - which we've established we're sensitive about itt, what with a "racist comment" about white people getting removed for being offensive to white people - and threatening to harm them. People have been fired for engaging in far less hostile activities in their vacations, and this guy's job is one of the most powerful ones in our society.

I know some of you guys would get upset and call for a Starbucks barista to get fired for saying "Cool Whip" in a slightly aggressive tone, assuming they're insulting your whiteness. In the interest of fairness, this cop has to go.
