I didn't just take a lot of drugs.

I was just thinking about something.

I am wondering if anyone else ever thought of this.

Okay. So. You die. At some point.

Turns out, there is an afterlife. It's not really Heaven, and it's definitely not Hell. It's like this endpoint of all endpoints where all consciousness collects. Like a big gathering of all entities. Souls. I dunno. People.

There's a strange structure to it. It's organized. You have self. You have intentions. You could flit your zing with a 0138kuo-hrang and *snap* you are with your dog that died when you were 8 years old. Reunited.

Here's the catch:

Everyone has been here for exactly the same amount of "time".

You just died. But so did John F. Kennedy.

You have been in this endpoint just as long as John F. Kennedy has, even though he died several decades before you were even born.

Here's where it gets even trippier:

Your children are also here. And their children. And their children's children.

Any and all. In the thousandths of a billionsecond of you dying and appearing here at the endpoint.....all life has taken place in the universe. And it has all come to pass. And it is all here now.

You just kinda know this.

Your kids have already grown and died and they can meet you right now. And you can meet them.

And you can just kinda will it to happen.

We've all died at the same time.

Even Genghis Khan.

You gotta stay away from that fucker. He crazy.

Time does not exist, it's just a logical order of events.
It's quite possible that all conciousness, is actually the same, just from a different perspective and blocked off from other memories.
When you die, in theory, you could then continue to exist as every other single entity in the universe, just individually.
Therefore, anything you do to other people, you yourself will eventually experience.
Your idea, fits well with this, in that eventually all conciousness could "collect" when there are no more individual conciousness entities in the universe.
At such a point all the individual lives would collect within one awareness, but could still remember being individuals and could interact with other individuals they experiences within their "lives"
The connections could draw them together in fact, so that lives that interacted with each other would naturally tend to group up within the over all conciousness.
Eventually though it would probably get deadly boring again and that over all conciousness would restart a new universe with tons of new individuals to spread out the tedium and boredom again, and all the previous ones would be forgotten.

You've basically just described the plot of Riverworld.

Except that's more just some people from every point in human history, not necessarily everyone. But then again, the river is really, really long, and as far as anyone knows no one has ever journeyed from one end to the other, so it's possible that it really IS every human who has ever lived.

You can't just wish yourself to hang out with other people, though. Part of the setting/plot is that everyone wakes up completely naked, and most forms of higher technology don't really seem to exist. So no one's going to be building a motorboat or planes to explore the world any any point.

there's a popular TV show that kind of ended like that... (it kind of had two separate plot endings and something similar to what you described was one of them)

The TV show was Lost. This extra text is just padding.

A while back I was thinking of making a game similar to Yahtzee's Chzo Mythos. I kind of gave up while learning the game engine. The plot of it would be that you investigate 2 groups. One is a manufacturer of machines that mine and build infrastructure on other planets. You discover that they're using tulpas as a shortcut to developing self aware AI.

The other group is a cult that is searching for the soul. They believe there is only one. They've found a way to separate a person's spirit from their body without killing them. They then study the body and extrapolate about the spirit based on what is missing. From this they surmise that the spirit returns to the one soul which exists outside of time.

There are some other things to uncover but the general idea was to draw a comparison between the 2 groups with humans being a medium to project the spirit on similar to the machines and tulpas.

That actually sounds really cool!

I've thought a lot about the distant future. I'm talking tens or even hundreds of THOUSANDS of years from now. Where technology is so integrated into our physical bodies....that it's hard to separate biology from technology. AI from human.

And I think we will get to a certain point where we will understand and have such complete mastery over our physical forms....we will know where the soul is located in our bodies. In our atoms. In all of our neurons. What makes us "us".

Downloading consciousness onto external hard-drives. Teleporting "self" across the cosmos. Diving into different shells. Or multiple shells at a time. Replicating life.

It's gunna be weird as hell.

Assuming we don't blow ourselves up beforehand.

I'll give you a hint. The material universe is too surface level. Think about the universe in its energy state.

Ain't no diff if there is an afterlife, you'll still have to deal with it after you die, if you believe in it, or you don't. Makes no point to worry about it while your alive.

Personally, I believe we change so much while alive, that such a huge change as dying would pretty much change you to the point where you are no longer you anymore, so it doesn't really matter.

That's being put to sleep. Death is basically what it's like before you were born to me. We simply cease to exist and we won't even know it.
