They are rich like mega rich. Many of them have multiple millions and giant mansions. They donate to charity sure, yet still wear clothing worth several thousands that could help lots of poor people.

So why?

Imagine having say 30 million and looking at someone who has 500 million.

That is like how a person with minimum wage who looks at a person who make say $300,000 a year.

They probably feel like they aren't even rich when they see guys like Bezons on the news.

So why should they give up their million dollar mansions and help the poor with it when someone else has billions and could give up their billions instead?

They just an actor with a measily 30 million afterall.

That's right, advocating for higher marginal tax rates on the highest tax brackets in society is hypocritical unless you're willing to become homeless. More of the hard-hitting savant level socioeconomic analysis TC has led us all to expect from him.

I dunno, maybe. Its not like Ruffalo said anything particularly profound, there, so its no stretch to suggest he's just being a weiner. But from what I understand, his latest film is a project he's been pushing for, and it's hardly a very commercial one and he chose Todd Haynes, of all directors, to make it, so this may be closer to his heart that one is letting on. I don't know much about him or his personal life.

When did I say they should be homeless?

But according to you, giving up real estate worth several millions means becoming homeless?

Why you defend rich elites anyways?
They aren't your advocate.

They would be stupid not to.
1. Tax break
2. Maintains an image very important for their status and where they live.
3. Networking. Since it is a thing celebs do, they can meet others, even big wig producers when attending say a gala event for some cause.
4. It helps them think it is ok to have so much more wealth than the average person; they gave back a tiny fraction so it is ok.
The funny thing is the more you have, the less a percent sets you back.
Ex: Ellen has given $50 mil to charity and people according to google. That is alot.
She is worth $275 mil though according to google.
So she gave away nearly 20%

But she still has 225 million to buy multiple mansions, fancy cars or whatever else floats her boat.
She at least also profits off of her charity since it creates entertainment value that causes some to watch her show more. Kinda like Mr.Beast; the more he gives the bigger his channel gets and the more money it generates.

Take someone with less.
30 mil.
They give away 10% of their wealth.
Now they have 27 mil.
Enough to buy a mansion and fancy things as well.

But hey, they gave away 3 million!
They gave away more than you or me
Right?

Well, funny thing, Jesus said the widow who gave her 2 mites gave more than everyone else despite rich people giving fortunes to the temple. Why do you think that is?
But I am not saying they give it all away anyways. That was just an example of how percents work, and 10% of little is more than 10% of alot when it comes to being missed by a person who has bills to pay.

You aren't being honest.
In the op I specifically said give up their mansions. Nowhere does that imply they do not have a home.

Idk where Ruffalo lives but this is the kind of thing he was looking at when he was buying:

Listed for $9.99 million, the five-story home at 161 West 91st Street boasts high-end offerings like a six-stop elevator, a roof deck, and a glassy rear extension that on the ground floor opens completely to a private garden.

What level of housing should someone be living in before they are allowed to advocate for higher marginal tax rates on the highest income brackets without being hypocrites?

I have no issue with that anyways.

See thread title. Whining about capitalism is saying stuff like it has failed.
Asking for more taxing is not the same thing.

Did I attack the article? My thread is discussing why a rich celeb whines about capitalism while still living his fancy life.
He is calling for revolution and new system.

Infact, I opened the article thanks to your comment and ironically the end of it described Ruffalo types vividly lmao.

If a single cultural idea has upheld the disproportionate power of this class, it has been the idea of the win-win. They could get rich and then give back to you: win-win. They could run a fund that made them sizable returns and offered you social returns too: win-win. They could sell sugary drinks to children in schools and work on public-private partnerships to improve childrens health: win-win. They could build cutthroat technology monopolies and get credit for serving to connect humanity and foster community: win-win.

Politicians are constantly talking about inequality. The Dem debates are all about healthcare and social safety nets. Even the republican debates talked about it (LOL) and it's sure to come up in the general election.

The problem is no one knows what to do about it. Frankly, Andrew Yang has it right in that technology is creating an inherently more unequal society. The question is what are we gonna do about it? Human nature isn't getting any better, so are we going to rely on more government force to redistribute? To what limit?

People rightly suspect Mark Ruffalo is a hypocrite because imagine Elizabeth Warren gets elected and she immediately institutes a 2% wealth tax. What do you think Mark Ruffalo and all the other wealthy people are gonna do? They're gonna move their assets into tax havens to avoid the tax. So, yes, I do get annoyed when these wealthy people complain about inequality because I think the extent to which they care about it is extremely limited
