I watched the first episode of Dorohedoro...

I'm unsure as to how I feel. The CG isn't as bad as I feared, and it is an intriguing "Whodunit" type story. At the same point I have a feeling they will just pull shit from nowhere because "MAGIC!" and therefore any building of the mystery can be made null and void.

@Calwings That's pretty neat. On a less neat note, I skipped ahead to some of the english dubbed songs in Zombieland Saga. I'm honestly surprised the licensors allowed them, because they are bad. Like, not even from a singer standpoint, they've been completely altered and changed to such a degree that it actually ruins some of them in particular like Saki's in episode 9. One of the lyrics references how saki died and is a pretty major part of her, and her personality and they got rid of it to be more...safe. Was extremely disappointing.

I've seen 6 episodes so far and none of the songs have been anything I would call bad. Some of them haven't been particularly great, but they haven't been bad either. I've been enjoying the show overall, and if I had to rate it based on the first half, I'd give it a 7.5/10, maybe an 8.

The problem is not w/ the singing of the songs(that's a complete other matter), but that they completely changed the meaning of particular songs.

The creator of the light novel died of cancer around 4 years ago, leaving it permanently unfinished.

I had heard that some other group picked up this series and Marchen Madchen and continued their LN stories without him. But seriously though, that makes two anime adaptations of this poor sap's LN's that have been beaten to death with the ugly stick. He can't catch a break even when he's dead.

The RPG elements are mostly fetch quests. The combat is more hack and slash type stuff rather than making use of RPG elements, and such.

Nah mang, Death March feels like it was written by a child. At least Arifureta has some character depth, event though the story is p bad.

Well, I was referring mostly to the anime's adaptation work. I like Arifureta's novel just fine from the get go (though I still haven't started volume 5), while Death March seems to take half a dozen volumes before things start happening, and I never made it past volume 2.

Death March's adaptation was fine, I guess. It's a straightforward adaptation that's missing tons of background info (the game-y stuff and world building) but is coherent enough. Average visuals and animations, and I guess pretty nice music. So it's pretty much just a slightly below-average light novel adaptation.

Arifureta, on the other hand... I'd say it's an incoherent mess, but maybe an anime-only watcher would see it differently. It's got five episodes covering the first book (420 pages) but is still missing about a quarter of important scenes, two episodes for volume 2 (380 pages), and laughably bad monster CG even for anime standards. With all the missing stuff that seem to build toward later volumes (according to a friend who's pretty obsessed with the series), I can't imagine season 2 being very coherent either. Pretty much the only redeeming qualities of the adaptation is the music and pretty nice visuals when there's no monster around.

Yeah, Somali has been really good so far. It has that same kind of comfy/sad vibe as Girls' Last Tour, which I really liked.

Finished binging the last of Kanon (2006). A fantastic adaption. I wish Kyoani did the adaption of Rewrite as well... I didn't know how it would handle all the different routes smoothly but it worked out great. Mai (and her theme) are still perfection.
