Well Stella is actually quite proficient. We quickly learn what she had to go through to become as strong as her, so do we with Ikki, fairly early on. You understand the kind of social scrutiny they're constantly under and either of them heavily relating to the other's situation. That's why they fall in love, especially since both of them came to the same solution of training so hard to the point where they could overcome people bringing them down. Ikki didn't make light of her effort and recognized it while everybody else just thought Stella was naturally gifted. But lol Ass War is like, yeah this guy's just really strong but for some reason he's just not recognized. The girl is actually really strong too. She trained or whatever, and they're just the 2 strongest people in the school already. Zooms around like crazy MC: Alright, it's time to pull power out of my ass. Battle over In comparison Ikki gets fucking worked by his first tournament opponent til Stella breaks him out of his funk, and even in their battle, there was a lot of analyzing each other's strengths. Stella having to rely on her natural powers even though she wanted to prove that she could beat anybody without having to rely on her powers, and Ikki physically incapable of beating Stella without relying on a short few second window of power he can pretty much only use once per day. They all have limitations and understand their match up, that if Stella was more prepared, it's implied she would've also beaten Ikki pretty easily. Sure both series are tired concept but calling them copies of one another is a serious misunderstanding of the absolute basics of storytelling.
