Maybe that one micro transaction riddled Star Wars game, but... thats it.

This is looking way worse, and were still prerelease. People have leaked the game and shown its a buggy mess of reused models and assets and way less content than anticipated. Games that came out 8 years ago still have more to do than this.

The review embargo for Sword and Shield ends in less than 15 minutes and theres no way its going to go well regardless of what people rate it. Positive reviews are gonna have r/Pokmon go fucking nuts. Negative reviews are gonna have people from Facebook groups talking about how everything was sabotaged.

And I guarantee you this is still going to sell well and nothing is going to change. And were gonna keep getting this nonsense every. Single. Year.

(until Digimon completes its world takeover plan and absorbs the Pogeymanz fan base)

You know, I never got the hate for Spore. I acquired the game when it came out and had a blast with it.

It wasn't that it was a bad game so much as it didn't live up to what it was being planned to be. The scale was meant to be much, much larger, meaning the project went through many delays before EA decided to scale it back to something far less ambitious. In practice, the fact that it resulted in an enjoyable game (that actually came out) means that that was actually probably a reasonable decision for them to make, but at the time it was treated as just another example of EA's corporate meddling diluting the quality of a studio's output after buying them out (and, true to form, Maxis wasn't around for too much longer after Spore).

In this game, you will catch 'em all if you catch all the ones available...

there's are around 900 pokemon.

there's only 435 in these games, the other 400 are not obtainable in any way.

3DS games are $40, and everyone should expect them to start at $40. Switch games are $60, and everyone should expect them to be $60. They are only a few reason for them to not start at those prices. And the graphics most likely will never be one of the reasons...

Games have been in the $60 U.S. range before. I remember putting SNES cartridges (e.g. Ogre Battle) on layaway and having to pay that amount over time.

Honestly, insisting on having the full National Dex catchable in every single Pokemon game has been more of a problem than anything else, given how large it's gotten and what that means for balancing and having a competitive metagame (particularly where so many pokemon that are available aren't available without bringing them in from a previous generation). Having "only" 450 or whatever in the game is still more to catch than any game in the first 3 generations had, while being a much more manageable number for balancing purposes and ensuring people can access the competitive metagame without also having to buy the last three games to get older Pokemon that haven't been succeeded by ones that are available in this game. It's just more practical to have a smaller (but still quite large) number to work with.

Sure, it seems like a step backwards because we're so used to the National Dex, but really, the National Dex has been a mistake since its inception. Older Pokemon should only ever have shown up in later games occasionally, as nostalgic cameos. Trying to keep every Pokemon in every game was only ever going to result in impractically large numbers. This change was inevitable.

Speaking of inevitable, it'd been cool if there were a game where Thanos wiped half of all Pokmon species.

I don't know how much you follow gaming industry news but big publishers are huge asses all the time.

They do it because they've decided being asses is more profitable then being nice and they are often right.

The bottom line is this game will still sell and all I've seen is folk cry about reviews. The same folk who haven't even played the game. Don't like what you see? Don't buy and move on. This game isn't going to get me to buy a Switch but it certainly is adding to the reasons. It looks neat.

Yep. As much as people got uppity about SSBU only adding like 9-10 new characters pre-DLC, much more than that would just have been too many. As it stands, I'm already almost never going to play the vast majority of them because it would be a massive undertaking to become halfway decent with that many different characters. I like new toys to play with as much as the next guy, but there comes a point when you've just got to recognize that there's enough there already.
