he was doing like a choose your own adventure stream thing, and he told people to spam red, or green, emojis in the chat to decide what he should do

this ended up getting hella people banned and not just from youtube, but their entire google account.

he actually showed examples and none of it is justified

Listen, I can't stand YouTube influencers, but I will step up and defend Markiplier. He's actually a rather decent individual who's rather tame in terms of influencing people. If you want to target a YouTube influencer who's actually influencing people, go for poodiepie.

Like him or hate him, Markiplier is correct here and it's a very shitty situation. Imagine going to a harmless video game stream and getting locked out of your email, music and other services (some of which need to be paid for) as a result.

The problem is less that, and more that Google bought the company only to realize they had no real idea how to actually make any money off it, or even run it properly without actually hiring staff and taking losses.

Basically, if they run the site effectively they lose money, but if they cut back enough to make money, the site is in a constant state of near-total fuckery.

Which is also driving them to give less and less of a shit about Joe Q. Averageuser and only really pander to the larger content providers and corporations that generate a large majority of the revenue in the first place.

Probably in the same way that spamming emojis on GameFAQs can get you modded as well. It's considered disruptive and annoying.

The difference being that, as much as people bitch about the mods here, at least they're still human beings with a modicum of discretion who can make value judgements. YouTube tends to automate every crucial function on the site out of a combination of terrified fear of actually hiring people to do work and because the massive flood of content almost CAN'T be curated by a reasonable number of humans, so it can't differentiate WHY people are doing something, only IF they're doing something the algorithm has been programmed to recognize as "bad". And YouTube's algorithms are notoriously bad at recognizing what's actually bad and what isn't.

To be fair, almost everything on YouTube is "niche" to some degree, and there will always be plenty of people who neither know nor care who the "popular" people are on the site. There are millions of people who have no clue who the fuck PewDiePie is, and Markiplier doesn't even have that level of exposure.

I actually WATCH Let's Plays and other gameplay videos by multiple YouTubers, and I've never really watched a single Markiplier video or even had his stuff recommended to me in my usual feeds. I only know who he is by tangential pop culture osmosis (and spending too much time on the Internet in general), and could easily see a scenario where I'd never heard of him or had no clue who he is.

And I'm basically consuming his variety of content. For the millions of people who aren't necessarily watching gaming stuff on YouTube at all, it would be easy for them to never know anything about him.

I would not be surprised if I get laughed at for my comment, but this is where censorship lies. They are doing this because PragerU is suing Google for doing just that.

But in the meantime, they are protecting a channel that named itself after the perpetrators to the Armenian genocide (as well as a genocide denier), some cable news channels that people only watch in airports, some channel that used to air music videos 40 years ago that makes videos that shits on others due to having light skin color, and cat videos. Endless cat videos.

Meanwhile, Bitchute is called "racist" all because there is no standard for "hate speech" there, so mostly anything goes (but it's really tiny and the video player isn't that good), and because people can donate their own money to creators they like, instead of relying on ads, but will never take off, because Google doesn't want their monopoly threatened.

The biggest inside joke about it all is that Google's parent company is called Alphabet. If that isn't a nod to CIA/NSA/DARPA/etc, I don't know what is. Hell, look at spinoff Niantic's logo really close sometime...
