As a kid, I always wanted Lego, video games, or toys for my birthday or Christmas. Now, almost 30, I don't have the time to play video games or build Lego as I'm just trying like hell to make meaningful changes to my life, spend time with family and friends, and make new memories that I can look back on. Now, the only thing I really want for my birthday or Christmas is stuff like giftcards for clothing as I want to try the clothes on before I buy them, or new tires or new brakes for my car, or memories like going fishing or going to a game with friends and family.

The things I want in life have not changed since I was a kid much. The difference is I don't ask for things anymore as gifts as I can simply buy them myself. As for the stuff I want to achieve out of life? That's down to me now.

Life is what you make of it, and the choices that brought you there.

I just hit 40. My Birthday/Christmas list is full of video games and D&D stuff. I don't want people buying me boring stuff like tools for the house, and no one ever picks out clothes I actually want.

To me, the memories I make when I play co-op with my buddy or when I DM my group are just as good and important as any fishing trip or sports-ball game. Even when playing single player, my friends have the same interests so we can chat about it.

Not to say I have as much free time as I used to - I terribly miss entire summer vacations and admittedly I have to give up my weekends here and there for housework or family events.

But if video games (and lego) are still important to you, you will find time for them.

I don't make time for video games, but that hasn't stopped me from wanting them >_>

I will say that adulthood -- and my ability to just buy stuff -- has taken much of the joy out of receiving gifts. Then again, adulthood tends to suck the joy out of a lot of things.

On a less heavy note, I always seemed to be sort of physically uncoordinated and clumsy for most of my life, even up to just a few years ago. But without me noticing I've gotten a lot more coordinated and smooth with everyday tasks, even compared to others my age or younger. My reflexes and judgment/reaction time are great, and even when something does go wrong I can almost always avoid disaster (catching something I dropped, landing on my feet when I wipe out on my bike, etc.).

Adulthood is when you stop caring about material things and start to care more about social life, personal relationships, etc.
Children want to receive gifts and adults would prefer to give gifts to make people happy.

I think you've confused adulthood with altruism. Altruism is irrespective of age, although it's easier to give as an adult. And a lot of adult giving is more obligatory than altruistic.

Ageing can certainly do that. Although on the plus side as a adult you can actually make new things happen that give you joy. Some folk for example will have kids. Myself? I've got a taste for visiting the rest of the world after my first real trip abroad to Poland. If money was not a problem I certainly would do a lot more travelling.

I'm super jealous. I was always clumsy and uncoordinated and have weird issues like not being able to tell what people are pointing at... Then I got multiple sclerosis and it's much much worse! :P

Not really. I don't work out particularly often or find myself in a lot of extreme situations.

I will say that, as a kid, I found brushing and flossing to be unpleasant chores. However, not that long ago I was excited by the prospect of trying out a new brand of toothpaste and was kinda struck by the fact that I didn't even really pay attention to stuff like that when I was younger (although, even in my teens, there was one point I massively stocked up because there were some great deals)
