For other save mys (Disney/Pokemon etc) I honestly just save odd stuff just because. Like I think my actual favorite Pokmon are like, Charizard and Scyther/Articuno but I would rather save Dunsparce and Geodude.

I also admit Dr. Mog at least has a cool design, boot list is hard because some characters have cool designs or cool names like Estinien Wyrmblood even if I dont know who that is

You could maybe say Ilfana is a stretch. Gast is not.

Gast is 100% the most important person ever born on Gaia.

There isnt one single thing in the main game, Advent Children, or the compilation that Gast isnt directly to be blamed for.

Heidegger and Scarlet arent in the game enough, nor important enough to matter for the rankings IMO.

I would put Don Corneo, President ShinRa and Sherry ahead of them both for importance.

Hell... even Palmer is more iconic (for a completely absurd reason mind you, but still)

I won't defend all of my decisions at this point (Ashley Riot was probably a step TOO FAR), but I'll still defend the BD one tbqh.

The counter-argument about the FFwiki being a fan site never held water with me either, considering this is a fan-contest and the wiki is the largest collected repository of knowledge period.

I mean based on just a quick look at that wiki it calls Bravely Default a spiritual successor (so not actually part of Final Fantasy) while saying Vagrant Story is officially set in Ivalice.

So it seems like it should be the opposite. Vagrant Story being set in a FF world makes it more of a FF game than BD which is just done in the spirit of the series.

Being set in a world means little imo, less than the spirit of the series, particularly when FF as a series takes place across a multitude of worlds. It's just token meaningless lip service. BD shares a lot more similarities to an FF game than a world setting that is practically there in name only.

That being said Edea is a bad character and has the most supporters so I support nuking it from orbit

Its pretty interesting to me that, despite all the homages IX gives to older games theres almost no overlap in fanbases

Even Bravely hits the more old school crowd more

IX is still PS generation appeal, but with a relatively quaint world setting compared to VII and VIII and even X really. I imagine most IX fans are snobs towards the simpler old school stories.

On the flip side I feel confident that gameplay and character designs are a stronger driver of the fandom among the old school block, both of which are things FFIX is relatively weaker on. Like yeah, Vivi, but Vivi is the only actual good character design really.
