I can see the point. But there are worse offenders like the two you mentioned, but while I don't see them with any huge backing, i dont see the same level of hate either.

Tiering the characters is easier than a formal ranking but still, pretty tough. Maybe later. There is one formula that's undeniable though:

If you're able to quantify the amount of quality that a character generates, and then divide it by the amount of screentime they get, you can calculate the character QPS.

#1 QPS: Cissnei

Pound-for-pound champion of quality for minimal appearance (subject to a minimum appearance threshold)

Good is always above pretty good

pretty good vs good depends on intonation

if you're saying "good" at a higher pitch than you did "pretty", that makes it actually sound like an exciting form of good than just simply balancing the good/bad scale onto the positive "good" side - the rising intonation makes you sound shocked because it's actually something enjoyable

if you're dropping your pitch for "good", then you are confirming that it is in fact just the lowest end of the "good" scale. it's "good"... kinda

What sucks the most about Cait is his limit break. Like I don't want to accidentally kill myself when using a limit so why wouldn't I use the 8 other far more interesting characters with consistently good limit breaks.

Both games have more divisive characters that attract more hate (Eiko and Wakka) while VII doesnt really have anyone so Cait stands out. Theres vocal haters for some, but theyre a minority.

Anyway, I like the cat with microphone, but not the robot tbh
