Assuming XSEED still owns the translations on the Sky games and NISA has the series moving forward that would be a huge mess to work through. Even if you split Sky and Crossbell up here you'd need XSEED to be willing to roll with it. Based on the fact they still published CS1 and CS2's PS4 ports maybe they'd be up for that but =/

Like in CS3 they clearly had to re-dub the flashback voice lines from CS1/CS2.

IDK, when it comes to "Need Falcom to do [anything] to help accessibility for the series in the West" I'm at the point of assuming the answer will be "no lol." There's the occasional interview line that sounds like there's maybe some hope over the horizon if you tilt your head the right way but it just feels like Lucy pulling away the football to me at this point.

You'd need them to feel like porting them for the benefit of the fanbase in Japan to have a chance.

Speaking of OSTs, listened to the new songs from Persona 5 Royal. Pretty cool.

megaton (not really but if you believe in music spoilers): If these titles are to be believed Mementos has new songs and it changes as you get deeper (of the added effects variety, kinda like Tartarus/Abyss of Time) definite improvement on the awfulness that is the vanilla Mementos Theme

Listening to the lyrics of some of the vocal songs gives me an idea of where the game might go in the new content though so that's for real music spoilers there so be careful on that front.

okay I finally caught up to xp's last post

That was a good set of scenes, and it's certainly setting the stage for something epic with so many different characters gathering together at the same place. And was that Crow with the black cat?! Pretty sure that was his VA speaking there.

But yeah, Ouroboros being a relatively new organization was a pretty surprising development considering how far-reaching their influence has gotten and all the technology they have access to. Makes me wonder if Professor Epstein must be the Grandmaster or at least an Anguis...! Wow, what a twist that would be, but since Sharon said they prefer pursuing orbal technology, it could work...!

And yeah, I'm certainly missing some context here, especially when they starting talking about stuff like the Zero Child, but they do a decent job of giving you a rough outline of everything and why it matters.

I didn't mention anything about it earlier because all my doggo news this year has been bad news and I didn't want to set myself up for it, but doggo had surgery to remove a growth earlier this week. It turned out to be a tumor but today we learned when they sent it in that they got it all so doggo should be okay.

Also, I will concede that Alfin improved a good bit from CS1 to CS2.

Still not a big fan though.

I'm trying to think of the character who has improved the most in my estimation from the first game until now. Overall for the series, it's Olivier/Olivert. I'm not a huge fan of him in Sky (although like Alfin, he's improved in the second game compared to the first), but he's been excellent in Cold Steel. But just for Cold Steel? Hmmm...Maybe Machias just because he was so low to start after the beginning of CS1, but he's still not one of my favorites by any means. Could be Fie, actually! I thought she was decent in CS1, but she's definitely gotten better as the series has gone along and her arc in CS3 looks really promising.

Overall for the series I'd probably say Tita? Didn't really care about her in FC but she's amazing in SC and 3rd.

Just within Cold Steel uhhhh...idk. Most characters got worse between Cold Steel 1 and 2, and the standouts in 3 have mostly been the new characters. Though on a similar note maybe I'll say Altina? She's been way better in CS3 than I would have expected.

FFXIV story is really ramping up near the end of its "first season," if you will. I remain uncertain whether or not Leon would like it because I can definitely see him shouting at the TV (and not without justification) "Like c'mon, let's go already" every time it takes 12,882 "go here; talk to this person; go here; now go here; now do this" steps before a major story mission happens and also the story really hasn't picked up that much until now. (I'm very #blessed though for knowing full well that it only gets better after ARR and having so friggin' much left to it.)

But anyway, Maggie the Magitek is great. Wedge fauning over Tataru is great. Biggs being Scottish is... not what I expected. I'm looking forward to THE COUNCIL MEETING. Some of these cutscenes could have really used a bigger budget though. That scene where Y'shtola and Yda suddenly retreated because four Garlean soldiers showed up in a huge, wide area and looked not even remotely threatening... it sorta reminded me of the less impressive Xenosaga II moments, lol.

It's funny though. Some cutscenes are very much modern FF. And then a lot of others clearly are not.

You know I never understood why people always complained about the Trails trope in which you beat a boss in a battle, but then in the cutscene afterwards they reveal they were just going easy on you and then they leave or you get rescued by someone else or whatever. I always thought it just made sense given how strong some other characters in the series are.

But, I think I finally get it now. (Chapter 3 day 1 spoilers) Now that Rutger finally used this trope on me in a children's card game it makes sense to me. No one in Zemuria is better than me at card games dammit!

I think the only part where that annoys people is CS2. Most other times it makes sense, but your party is pretty strong by the end of CS2 and some of the people you run from are not that tough.

I just think it's overused, and sometimes it happens after a boss that isn't that hard. If it's a difficult boss, then sure, go for it. If I wiped the floor with them (and I'm not the type to overlevel), then it's hard to swallow.
