I've also noticed I do a lot better in real life than online but I normally just play Bo1s in Arena which might be a factor.

Playing this burn deck has made me want to get a modern burn deck, which is an idea i'd been toying with for years.

1 drop for a 4/3 seems pretty powerful to me. Hard to deal with in the early game depending on what youre up against. Might be easier to just take the 4 damage to prevent more than 4 in the long run.

Vexing Devil is a good one drop if you don't want to break the bank. Goblin Guide is about seven times as expensive and the Devil makes a decent replacement.

Thats the problem it isnt a 4/3 unless your opponent chooses for it to be a 4/3. This is the Browbeat problem and why a lot of cards like this are traps both sides are great in a vacuum, but when you have context, your opponent will always choose the side that is worse for you.

On turn 1, they either dont have removal, in which case it becomes a bolt+1. Pretty sweet. If they do have the removal, you just played a creature that dealt no damage to them, as opposed to Goblin Guide, Monastery Swiftspear, or Eidolon of the Great Revel. You spent a turn doing nothing, which you cant afford to do. Mid-game, you need cards with reach, which Vexing Devil does not provide. A 4/3 for 1 is completely irrelevant in a burn deck by turn 3, in which case it again dealt no damage.

Theyll adjust the bots sooner or later. The deck hasnt been as much of an issue in paper drafts where people value those cards correctly.

Looks like just Field of the Dead got axed (and Astrolabe in pauper).

I think not killing one of Krasis/Oko/Nissa in standard was probably also a mistake, but we'll see what happens.

Also Pioneer seems mismanaged here. I get the point of another format to some extent, even if I have no real interest, but going in with no ban list other than fetches seems like an error.

Well, it's going live on MTGO later this week, and they said on Twitter that they'd be using early MTGO results to inform banlist decisions before the first paper tournaments next year, so maybe it'll be alright.

Frontier sucked hard, though admittedly it died out a few years ago and would have seen a ton of changes since the past few years have had high power levels.

The closest you can get is MTGArena, which is still drafting with 7 bots and not people. I know there are some other ways to go about it, but I have no specific information.

As for the format... well, for the first time since OG Ravnica, the mill deck is real. GW Adventures, GB food, and RB/RW knights are good archetypes. UR is insane if you get the good payoffs. Go-wide strategies arent great because of Revenge of Ravens, which blanks your 1/Xs. As usual, draft a good curve, take removal when you can find it, and bounce effects are much worse than usual because bouncing an adventure creature is terrible value.

Bunch of speculative Pioneer cards have spiked in price pretty hard over the past 24 hours. Speculators are some of the worst people in Magic, but if you had any of those cards lying around from old Standard formats, now would probably be a good time to try and dump them.

They really can't do well at long-term formats without angering people. Modern was the new Legacy, Frontier and Pioneer have tried to be low cost alternatives to Modern. I remember what I consider the best Extended format I played with Urza's to Kamigawa. I've heard people call it the extended format that ruined the format, but everyone could play it. You could take standard decks and with max $30 make it full compatible the format or play a deck you played five years earlier. People still got upset.

It doesn't matter how you do it, there will always be someone angry about a long-term format while the people with the cards will either be angry that a slightly shorter-term format is trying to replace the one they (paid to) play or feel like they've been pushed out. There is no making people happy in this regard. Everyone will be unhappy if they paid for a format that will be pushed out or asked to pay into a format that is more expensive than their budget allows.

Had a 7 win run in war of the spark draft so that felt nice, the last match was we both had ugins but I bolt bended his -3 for the pivotal turn. I love cards like bolt bend.

So Field of the Dead gets axed for dominating the field and Oko, MOT pops up instantly to do the same? I'm not complaining because I'm a Simic player and have the deck, but they have had so long that "it's a new mechanic" is a non-defense. Field of the Dead felt broken in standard the first time I played against it. At least with Oko there are answers in this barren field of land removal. You simply can't print that card if there's no Stone Rain in standard.
