Back in the day, they started nerfing color hosers because they were too binary/swingy.

For them to be playable, they either have to be crippling to their target or playable without a valid target. They moved towards the latter

Veil of summer was closer to the former, and some would say too much so. It's a 100% dead card against naya and a crippling blowout against dimir control

But to be honest, I have zero pity for control players crying that their counterspell was countered.

I had picked up three of them back when they were around 25 each. I was hopeful that it would, but wasn't counting on it for another announcement or two. RUG Delver was performing better than Grixis Delver with DRS and Probe.

Late response, but you're totally right. It just felt like it was printed regularly for a while, such that I assumed they printed the effect nearly all the time. I think it was ixalan + dominaria that convinced me

while ouat is obviously the most powerful (instant, generic & conditionally free), it's still a more powerful riff on an old tune

Adventurous impulse, commune with dinosaurs, oath of Nissa, grapple with the past, seek the wilds, traverse the ulvenwald are all slightly worse/ less pushed versions of ouat

In a shocking surprise to R&D - printing free spells is a mistake.

Who could have seen this after the success of Moxen, Affinity, Hogaak, Phrexian Mana, Storm, Cloud of Fairies (and similar), Stoneforge Mystic, Aetherworks Marvel and in going all the way back - Rebels.

You'd think they'd test this shit a little harder.

Played Simic Food in the new Arena Historic event. Wrecked face. My only losses were a bad draw against RDW and a W/U/B control deck that actually beat the pants off me. Possibly the only deck legit built for historic and capable of beating food with some regularity.

Conceptually I dont hate it, but its definitely not for me.

I will say that Im very happy with the way theyre handling sales of it though. Print-to-demand for a full 24 hours is a much better way to handle selling a limited product than the other debacles theyve had recently.

So the Historic suspensions are about as unsurprising as can be. The same four cards that were warping Standard are out at least for the time being. I doubt any of them come back, even though Wizards says this isn't a banning, but maybe Veil of Summer gets a second chance when best of one Historic comes and it doesn't have the already too powerful Oko and Once Upon a Time to make it disproportionately powerful.

Sucks that you have a bad group. My current group is now around 1 year old and it's still incredibly fun because barely any of the decks run intentional infinites.
