wolfy42 08/17/19 6:31:54 PM #4:	It actually doesn't take too long to reach a depth that is unsustainable by hand (200 meters or so I believe). In theory though you could find a place with hard rock etc that extends down further, and then slowly mine down, but I believe the deepest man made mines are still only about 150 meters or so. What you could do is something along the lines of a reverse pyramid, and it would take a ton of time and manpower. The base of the pyramid would be at ground level and each level down would be slightly smaller. By originally digging large, then filling in the sides with stone, you could probably dig far deeper using only simple tools (much like building a pyramid in reverse, butactually slightly easier since your going down instead of up).
