being the youngest in a family of substance abusers of different kinds certainly turned me off from any drinking/smoking/etc at an early age... for pot specifically, it was annoying that my bedroom was above my brother's and there was a crack in my closet for the smell to flood in

not that I'd support prohibition of anything, just a big personal turn-off

When I think about it, the poll result is in no way surprising. It does, however, shed light on a significant blind spot of cognitive dissonance I didn't fully realize was present in my life.

If I passed this poll on to everyone who I regularly have meaningful interactions with in real life, the split would probably be more like 80% good, 20% bad.

I don't mean to say that marijuana is the end all be all or whatever, just that the question is probably a relatively decent predictor of "lifestyle compatibility" - a term I'm just making up / using for my own general purpose - among people.

People probably are going to disagree with that, which is cool. But for me personally this was kind of eye opening.

Yeah this is like this classic "you're doing it wrong" trope.

Compared to alcohol it would be like saying "I've only drank alcohol one time. I took 15 shots in 2 hours and it SUCKED. I don't like alcohol."

It's so wild living in today's world where you cross a state border and there's highly charismatic, trained, attractive people educating you on the details you never even knew existed about all their different strains they have pre-rolled right behind the counter. Then you go back home and get shady texts in non-specific language probing for whether or not you can make a shady, illegal meeting at a poorly lit parking lot.

I went to California and met this woman who was talking about a mobile app she'd just recently started using where they deliver weed to you, similar to grub hub, door dash, etc. She asked, knowing perfectly well from our prior converstion where I lived, "do they have that service in Kentucky?"

.....................no. No, they don't have that service in Kentucky.

It was just a little bit mind blowing to realize she lived in such a cocoon as to be oblivious to the fact she was asking if I regularly used an app for delivery service of a thing which is illegal to possess.

Good. I enjoy being 'high'. Helps me sleep. Much prefer it to being drunk.

Overall it helps a lot of people and is fun for many others so as a whole I think it's a net positive for humanity. Still voted bad because my body doesn't enjoy it

when I had an apartment with my brother, the worst thing was the ventilation in the bathroom sucking in all the smoke into the tiny confined room while I'm trying to take a shower

mostly with cigarette smoke but my god any time he did it while I was in the shower was just completely god damn suffocating and I'd trapped

I have this theory that a huge portion of the paranoia people feel from smoking weed is rooted in the fact that it is (or was for so long) illegal. If there was zero (0) social stigma against it I don't think the number of people who say it just makes them paranoid would be anywhere near what it is currently. People are usually worrying what would happen if people (or authorities) "found out".

The puking because you mixed it with alcohol is of course a totally different thing. That's just putting your brain into a state it has no fucking chance of understanding how to handle. So it's like "hey stomach I literally have no clue just try everything until we feel better like idk???"

Cross fading (drinking and smoking at the same time) is never always a good idea. Especially if you dont do it often

Eh I get that it can help a lot of people as well as be a fun pastime. However I do also think it's really overated and the people who act like it's the greatest thing in the world and don't shut up about makes me lose all respect I had for it. Also it smells like ass to begin with and it lingers aftewards making it even worse.

I think there's a difference here when we talk about the smell of weed - I can very much see the smell of weed smoke being awful and repulsive. But the actual buds, of real good weed, smell pretty much objectively delicious. And most people who don't smoke will only know the smell of smoke, second hand.
