I think GameFAQs won't be around in a few years.

I'll be genuinely surprised if GameFAQs is still around in 20 years. The game FAQs are mostly dead and all that's mostly active is the message boards, and they're not as busy as they were a decade ago.

Considering I've been posting on Gamefaqs for around 20 years now and PotD for a good chunk of that time, duh.

As long as it's low-maintenance and profitable, I can't see them getting rid of it. However, if it started to attract controversy, I imagine it'd quickly get shut down.

This, GameFAQs is slowly dying and I highly doubt it will still be here in 10-20 years, if that. Once it becomes a big enough money drain or doesn't make enough profit it will be gradually closed down, and the stuff that is still of use (walkthroughs, etc) to be made available on GameSpot (which it already is IIRC).

GameFAQs is dead, and, because of the SJWs we have for mods, as well as no images yet since they hate Imgur, I give it another week before GameSpot announces that it is closing off GameFAQs for good.

Came in to say this. I suspect GameFAQs won't be here in 10 years, let alone 20.

Younger people tend to think that everything that's popular now (or that's at least be around for a long time) will stay around forever, but I've been on plenty of forums, boards, and chat rooms that no longer exist, even if they'd been around for years beforehand.

GameFAQs continues to slow-bleed users, technology has made the concept of a FAQ more or less obsolete, and click-ad revenue is becoming less and less effective as a means of income for Internet services. GameFAQs will eventually reach a point where it doesn't generate enough money to justify the costs, as which point C|Net/CBS will shut the whole thing down (they might try to salvage the branding by restructuring the entire site or trying to establish premium subscriptions to support things, but neither of those things would even remotely work for this site in the current environment).

Gamefaqs is at least 10 years past being relevant and yet it's still pretty damn strong.

Gamefaqs *might* be folded together with other properties, but I can't see it going away entirely unless its userbase vanishes because there's still money there.

Eh, maybe. I've been using the main GFAQs site for 20 years already, no reason not to stick around if the site continues that long, as I'll probably still be a gamer in 20 years' time (even if it weren't for my extensive backlog!). I've been writing fanfiction for 25 years now, and my domain, unfaithful-mirror.net, turned 15 years old last week.

Makes sense. Although I feel like I've viewed gamefaqs from more of a social media standpoint than an actual gaming website for the past 10 years. I rarely if ever use the actual FAQS. I can't really think of many other large scale social message board for gamers outside of GameFAQS though. That's always been more of an attraction to this site for me. I'm also always surprised at how whenever I show up here, there are still many people posting that I remember from over 10 to 15 years ago. Korruptor being the first to respond to this topic is the perfect example. It's just weird to me that I view this place as some unchanging part of my history.
