We're forced to recite the Pledge of Allegiance and boomers were forced to be drafted into Nam.

I'll take reciting the Pledge 7/7 times a week. Count your blessings.

they did both, genius. what is the point of this comment?

My point is our generation hasn't really faced any real adversity compared to the ones before us. If your biggest complaint is reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, that means we got it easy.

With exception to the HEROES who decided to sign up for service and put themselves into Iraq, Afghanistan, SK, etc etc

It should be outlawed in schools. It's totally un-American. All this talk about war heroes and respecting the country is bullshit. The Pledge of Allegiance spits on the country and shames its heroes. America was not built to brainwash children.

How pointless of a life does one have to live where saying the pledge of allegiance in school 12+ years ago causes one to get upset?

Like, I lived in a really "patriotic" area and nobody gave a shit if you didn't say it. All you had to do was stand up with everyone else and nobody paid attention.

Are you serious right now?!?

I always liked doing the pledge

And the ideals the flag stands for are worth pledging allegiance towards

Obviously those ideals arent always met...but what better way to meet them than attempting to instill their importance to the youth

Or its nationalistic brainwashing. Theres probably some of that too since young kids likely dont understand what those ideals even are or really mean or how important they are.

Theyre too busy having fun being kids.

Lol that's ridiculous.

I remember when I was kindergarten one time I was kinda underneath this circular table (there was no room with all the kids in the way) for the Pledge. One kid pointed it out and everyone laughed and it was a positive laughter. They all thought I was funny, so I would always go underneath this table when we did the Pledge because everyone loved when I did it. This maybe lasted a week or 2 until the teacher told me to stop :(

People would STILL bring it up to me in High School because they fondly remembered it.

It's nationalistic brainwashing. Young kids can't sincerely "pledge allegiance" to anything. Moreover, if someone were sincere, they wouldn't need to be forced to repeat the pledge, on command, every weekday for years. They'd believe it in their hearts. This monotonous recitation in schools is pure indoctrination.

Yeah but what if the only way to get people to believe in those ideals is to do something like that

Instead of trying to convert someone thats seen the world and reality and might be a bit jaded.

Not saying it is, but it could be

If forced indoctrination is the only way to get people to believe in "liberty and justice," then there is no liberty or justice.

Besides, the pledge is about instilling blind nationalism, not a proper value system.

I think its weird to have people recite it before sporting events and for kids to have to do the same before class. It literally has nothing to do with those events. Its something that could still be taught in class when discussing US history.

No what I'm saying is what if the only possible way to actually achieve liberty and justice is to instill it prior to becoming aware of what it actually is to protect against the resentment acquired from realizing the lack of upholding the ideal (which will be inherent in every single society).

That would be a bummer if reality was setup like that

Literally in school at 6 years we were being told pledge allegiance to a flag for reasons we didnt even understand and to agree that were all under God...in school. As kids. They were forcing a specific religion on us.

In 2019 thats fucking frightening to think about, they were essentially brainwashing us like we were in a cult.

You know what I think about when I hear these types get disturbed by the Pledge. Or US flags. Or anything. All of it. Everything these days that represents our country. All the smarmy, pseudo intellectual, enlightened and self described "educated" people.

Many major powers through history never fell from an outside attack. They all grew so powerful and decadent. So complacent, cut off from reality and ignorant that they all collapsed from the inside. Their own people. Societal collapse. An embracing of stupidity, arrogance and moral corruption.
That is what is happening to America now. And that exact sort of leftist demagoguery is what needs to be fought in every election we have in order to prevent it.
