He was acquitted, so even if he did actually do it y'all are being bigots by not treating him like a free man

Acquitted once, is that where we are putting the bar now? Had the government just chosen to never appeal, I would be fine with it. But in the US there is this silly concept of "Double Jeopardy", meaning that even if they find the proper evidence later down the line, there can be no appeal.

The OJ case is just a perfect example of the problems with how Double Jeopardy works in the US.

How does that make people bigots

Unless youre just focusing on his skin color and the alleged facts known to the public

I'm going to be honest, OJ's advice about the debates wasn't half-bad. It certainly wasn't what I had expected, which is why I'm holding off on a snarky remark.

(EDIT: Realized I needed to clarify "about the debates" because he's had some scary advice about other things.)

Umm I was pretty sure if they found new evidence they could. Just had to be sometbing big and had a good chance of altering the outcome. Just that they couldnt re try you withouy any new evidence.

I'll see if i can look it up though as this just my fuzzy memory speaking from taking criminal justice like almost 10 years ago.

Yeah looks like you where right.

I wouldnt call it wrong though. There is a reason it exists

The concept of double-jeopardy isn't silly, it's essential for making sure that the government doesn't abuse the rights of citizens by repeatedly trying the same person for the same crime until they're found guilty. Pretty much every first-world nation has some similar provision and, like the US, has some similar exemptions. The concept of double-jeopardy is generally accepted by councils on human rights, which makes your dismissal seem more than a little strange.

Yes, the requirement for new, perhaps better, evidence. Outright appeal forbiddance on the side of the government is not as universal as you seem to think.

No, most first-world nations don't just allow retrials whenever new evidence comes along because that's setting a dangerously low bar. In fact, in most of those nations, it's pretty expressly forbidden.

It's the UK, they can convict you by claiming there's a hidden data packet in your digital photograph and you're refusing hand over a cipher.

https://falkvinge.net/2012/07/12/in-the-uk-you-will-go-to-jail-not-just-for-encryption-but-for-astronomical-noise-too/

And it's worth noting that England *had* double jeopardy laws in place, until authoritarian elements took them away about a decade or so ago.

I mean his advice was right. After the debate turn it off and YOU decide who you thought won. Not what the MSM and talking heads want to put in your head as to who "won" the debate.

He did lose the civil case afterwards though, so he has some guilt actually. The jury felt he was responsible in that trial, and the burden of proof in a civil trial is lower.

Civil cases have a far lower bar so it's not a particularly meaningful statement.

Civil court only requires that there's doubt he was acting legally, and that can be loosely applied to basically anybody.

It had nothing to do with the people

The prosecution bungled the case at every opportunity and the police department was incompetent
