Speaking of which, I want to clarify my stance on that sort of thing re: the discussion we had about it on Discord earlier.

I am indeed a proponent of "let them make their art how they want, it's their bodies." That includes unprotected chair shots just like it includes dumb bumps or other dangerous spots.

But I've always maintained at the same time that I think it's stupid. They're morons for doing it. I think Darby Allin is a nutcase for taking the bumps he does, and I think Shibata's an idiot for the headbutt spots. But at least those things look cool. Unprotected chair shots look stupid. Cody just has his hands hanging limply at his side for that - why didn't he do anything? They even had the story of his hand being targeted all match, just have him holding onto it with the other hand and it would've been just a little bit better. Or have him put one hand up and fail to block it or something. Anything but the "tilt my head slightly forward for the sake of doing an unprotected chair shot."

Now, all that being said, I'm seeing some chatter that the chair was gimmicked so maybe it isn't even worth this much discussion.

What bugs me about it if its gimmicked is that then the angle is clearly playing off of a wrestler doing something that is taboo outside of kayfabe. Theyre doing it FOR the shock reaction because its not something thats supposed to be in their artistic tool set anymore
