I was wondering whether to say anything, but since we're on the topic, and because it really doesn't spoil anything if you know it or not, they figure out later that the Midnight Channel becomes clearer to the observer the closer they are to someone. It's why Chie was the first one to fully identify Yukiko, and Yukiko was the first one to be able to identify Kanji (since she dealt with him before at the textile shop).

Pretty sure Rise is pretty close to Rise.

Oh, thanks.

- We watch the Midnight Channel again, and shockingly, Rise is on it. Or more specifically, Shadow Rise, since her eyes are yellow. She announces that she's going to "push the limits of standards and practices" and "bear it all for you."
- Teddie complains that we forgot about him and he got lonely. Anyway, he eventually says to go find a hint about her so he can track her down.
- Alright, time for another patented Anagram Predix: Teddie has some kind of connection to Adachi. He either is Adachi or he's Shadow Adachi something like that.
- Isn't it a pretty big deal that Rise disappeared like two days after coming to town? I'd think the cops would be everywhere after a celebrity disappearing.
- I eventually get enough information for Teddie to track Rise down. She's at a strip club, so we just go in immediately.
- Deeper into the strip club, we find Shadow Rise. Again, it fools Yosuke and Chie for a second. Come on, guys. Literal blue DBZ aura. You're detectives. Come on.
- Again, the random title cards are the best part. I love these things. I'm not even making a joke, they're so good.
- Anyway, she announces that she'll soon flaunt herself. "What we just saw was her repressed self!" She... flaunts herself in her idol persona, acts tired and normal when not in her idol persona, but secretly she wants to flaunt everything? Okay then.
- To my absolute shock, there's no miniboss.
- A random enslaved beast decided to crit, get a second turn, and crit again. Fun times.
- A samurai guy ambushes me, increases his crit rate, attacks Chie--and misses, falling down and letting me use an all-out attack. Very intimidating.
- I reach what I assume will be a miniboss, but I just use traestro and leave the dungeon. I'll fight it after saving and eating some pizza.

- Whoever said this dungeon would take less time than the previous ones is a dirty liar, but eventually I get to the top.
- Rise is there with Shadow Rise. I just had an idea to make this funnier: Rise keeps to her idol personality and wants to suppress being a normal person, and her dungeon is like just a normal house, and her shadow just sits around and watches TV and eats Dorito's while she denies this being her true self and wants to tell herself that she's an awesome interesting person. I realize that completely changes the scene and the character, but it would absolutely be funnier.
- I like Shadow Rise's design, rainbow stripper is an interesting idea.
- You know, everyone is very sympathetic to each other, being all "I was like this too?" or "We were all like this," but honestly, Yosuke's and Chie's inner feelings were way less embarrassing.
- Beating Shadow Rise is easy until she makes herself invincible. She defeats us in a cutscene, but Teddie summons a super saiyan aura and defeats her somehow. This also makes him turn flat because ???
- Rise and Shadow Rise merge, and Rise says "there's no real me." This sets off Teddie, and so is summoned Shadow Teddie. Shadow Teddie tells him that he has no forgotten memories and is about to explain what he really is when Teddie says "no don't that's a spoiler, save it for when it's more dramatically appropriate." Shadow Teddie agrees that this is a good idea and suggests we have a boss battle instead.
- I like how Teddie's Shadow is this deep-voiced, well-spoken guy. I might be wrong with my earlier prediction about Adachi. All of the other shadows were like 'this is part of your real self' and were excitable or fey or whatever, point being that Teddie's equivalent to this acting implies that whatever he is is much more complex.
- Teddie is knocked out of the action, but Rise says "yo dawg I'm the Fuuka/Futaba of this game and I'll take over for Teddie, maybe in Persona 6 this role will be filled by a boy, but I doubt it."
- Does Koromaru feel left out for being the only mascot character to not also be a battle commentator? Because I would absolutely have taken BARK BARK BARK WOOF over Mitsuru.
- Other shadows turn into monsters that tell you something about the characters' inner emotions or whatever. Shadow Teddie turns into a giant version of himself with a broken face that reveals the inner infinite darkness within, very symbolic of how he's empty in literal terms and deep with meaning and implications. Or maybe I'm just full of ****. What I can say for sure is that I was very thankful my characters got fully healed between fights.
- I'll be totally honest here: this fight was made way easier by me getting a persona with a +def spell very early on, me getting it upgraded randomly into a +party def spell, and me just transferring that over every time I fused it. It's been useful before, but here it was especially useful because it could quickly undo Shadow Teddie's -party def spell.
- I have no idea what nihil hand is even supposed to do. He telegraphs it for two turns, and guarding blocks its entire effect.

- I also have to say that for some reason, the angle you see Shadow Teddie at when he's in 'injured' mode is hilarious. He's like pulling back from you and his eyes are wobbly and his mouth is all over the place, I love it.
- I also like how Rise does nothing the entire battle. I remember Fuuka and Futaba being integral to the battles they join you for, but Rise never even speaks for this entire fight.
- I have to say, this is probably the easiest boss fight so far. I was never in serious danger of losing, though part of that is because I always stock up on anti-status effect items.
- Teddie accepts his inner whateverness and gains a persona. Shadow Teddie still doesn't tell him what's going on, though. You know, the previous shadows didn't have secret plot information they were hiding, so I just sort of assumed their knowledge was identical to the 'real' person's knowledge.
- Rise collapses because she's so tired after her persona awakened. Meanwhile Teddie stands literally three feet away.
- Everyone goes back to the entrance to the TV world. Is... is no one concerned how Teddie is still flat? I know he obeys cartoon physics, but come on. Also, Rise is sure taking all of this well for someone who should have zero idea what's happening.
- Later that night, Dojima and Adachi come home. Adachi tells Greg that there's a new detective in town who's also a teenage boy. Oh man, did Persona 5 do anything original? But I'm really just making a joke here because I am absolutely certain this detective is Obviously-a-Girl.
- I then go back to do Margaret's next request only to learn that it requires a four-way fusion, and those aren't available yet. Guess I'm stuck with a bunch of tear drop personas until it's time.

I should say that I really enjoy the Shadow Teddie concept. I didn't see it coming, it's done very well, and the boss' design is excellent. It really feels like a major moment in the game, as opposed to Shadow Kanji and Shadow Yukiko, who just feel like we're fighting bosses. Like neither of those times did I feel narratively like I'm closer to something significant, it just felt like I was saving people.

It does completely steal Rise's thunder, though. Like, we get these long emotional scenes dedicated to Yosuke, Chie, Yukiko, and Kanji accepting their inner shadows, but Rise gets it over with in ten seconds so that Teddie can take over. The part where she's supposed to calmly walk to Shadow Rise and be all "I accept that this is what I am, I've grown as a person, now I understand myself more thoroughly" is done so quickly that it's actually kind of funny, but I appreciate that they had to write it that way because you can't do that twice in a row with Rise and Teddie.

Out of curiosity, how far am I, percentage-wise?

It's definitely the best scene in the game so far. Part of that is sold on Shadow Teddie's voice, it's really good.

Shadow Teddie is great from a design standpoint and I love his voice. Along with Shadow Yosuke they're definitely the best shadow selves in the game IMO.

A few other points you made that I'll avoid commenting on because I think they'll clear themselves up eventually and I'll talk about it then if I remember. And yeah, 30-33% sounds about right.

Nihil Hand is just a big damage attack IIRC. Really the biggest risk is seeing the wind-up and thinking you should defend instead of attack if you don't know you can interrupt it.

I actually didn't know you could interrupt that attack until like a month ago when I was going for the P4G platinum. One of the trophies is to hear a certain number of lines from Rise in battle, and a guide I was following mentioned to make sure you let him finish Nihil Hand for a Rise line. I had no idea not letting him finish it was an option because I always blocked when the charging began.

I would actually say then opposite. Yosuke and Chie's inner feelings focused on how they wanted to take advantage of people they cared about to make themselves feel better. Rise just really..really...wants attention, which while embarrassing in how its displayed is less 'bad'.

Yeah, I've been enjoying the cast so far. They're less down-to-earth than P3's, but not as wacky as P5's. I could use some more 'team bonding' scenes, though.

This topic has gotten me to replay P4G.

That implies that you wouldn't replay it on your own.

- Finish a side quest where a little boy needs stickers to impress other kids and make friends. Rarely does a game just admit that you can buy friendship with physical items.
- Do some side quests to trick people into believing a shrine magically grants their wishes so a fox can fleece people out of their money.
- "I see you've already done the reading, smartass." I love this teacher.
- Dojima's wife was killed in a hit-and-run. As is standard with murdered police family members, the police force has given up the case so that only the husband still searches on his free time.
- 7/05 and I only just realized I can fish at night. I still don't do it, though.
- I love these Dutch angles in the hallways at the hospital job.
- 7/09 and Greg checks the Midnight Channel. Unsurprisingly, no one's on it. If I fail to rescue the person by the appropriate day, what happens? I assume a game over, but anything special? I remember in P5 you get weird elaborate nonsense sequences, I watched them on YouTube.
- Meanwhile, in the shopping center covered by fog, an anime cutscene appears. A figure is hung upside-down from a building. The next day, we learn the victim: the mean schoolteacher. Dammit! I loved that guy.
- "You mean THAT King Moron? Senpai's homeroom teacher?" Kanji, he's the homeroom teacher of literally everyone at the table except for you.
- Everyone is confused, since the teacher never appeared on TV. My prediction: it's a false lead meant to throw us off.
- "Maybe the Midnight Channel doesn't have anything to do with this." Yeah, Yukiko, I'm sure the magic TV show connected to the magic TV dimension that you rescued three previous victims in is unrelated to the murders.
- Everyone visits Teddie to see if he has any ideas. But Teddie left the TV world and has been wandering around the store. I like how the staff thinks he's a mascot, but he's clearly too small to be an adult employee.
- Teddie says no one entered the TV world, and the heroes realize the teacher must have been killed outside of it. Teddie, meanwhile, announces that he's joining us in battle. But isn't his job of telling us that we got a critical hit too important to risk on Rise screwing it up?
- An anime cutscene starts, and Teddie takes off his head. Inside there's a very bishie naked human boy. I like how it's Yukiko and Chie who go to help him shop for clothes for him instead of any of the boys.
- Okay game, look. I'm okay with Teddie growing a human body or discovering his inner humanness or whatever, I don't know where this is going, but I'll roll with it. I'm also okay with everyone just accepting it without explanation. What I don't believe is that a teenage boy equal in height to Yosuke could have fit into that Teddie costume.

- We go to check on Rise, and Obviously-a-Girl is there. "He" introduces himself as Naoto, the teenage detective. I'm shocked. She implies that she knows we're involved somehow, then bounces.
- Rise tells us that she doesn't know anything useful, then joins the team. I like how the investigative team social link has increased twice in a single really long cutscene and the cutscene's not even close to being over. Based on how she acts, I get the feeling she's gonna be our 'default' love interest like Aigis and Makoto, right? I regret choosing Makoto over Kawakami.
- That night, Igor says "yo dawg you can fuse four personas at once, but don't ask me why I didn't give you this power earlier."
- We get a new teacher the next day, Ms. Cleavage. She dislikes Rise.
- Rise is supposed to be a first-year? So she's supposed to be fourteen? Because she was in all kinds of revealing outfits in those commercials. This reminds me of Martian Successor Nadesico, one of the like six anime I've watched. I've always remembered it because there's a scene where a character's 13 year-old sister shows up and acts like a little kid, prowling the spaceship and just generally having the mentality of a child, and one of the adult-ass middle-aged men is all "ISN'T SHE ATTRACTIVE" and I was like oooooookaaaaaaay japan.
- "I can't forgive the killer, no matter what!"
- Naoto shows up and tells us to let the cops handle it because they already have a suspect: a high school boy. Yeah, the cops have zero history of false arrests with this case. I don't know who the high schooler will turn out to be, but I hope he'll at least have a portrait.
- "But then, I am accustomed to it." I love Japanese stories where a character has a job that requires a lot of experience when they're like twelve. Ocelot being a major at 22, Edgeworth being a lawyer at 20, this stuff is great.
- That one cutscene took like forty minutes, by the way.

Rise is the best character! She's the most open about her feelings for the protagonist, if that's what you're asking.

16, I think. Golden has a scene around here where she notes that her birthday has passed so she's old enough to get a bike license (you get a bike/scooter in Golden). She's older than Kanji, who can't because he's 15. High School in Japan has 3 years, if that's throwing you off. Makoto was a third-year and 18, IIRC.

Chidori does, yes. IIRC we discussed this in P3 and I thought Fuuka implied she did or otherwise had limited scanning ability outside the Dark Hour but couldn't point to when and you didn't recall it so who knows.

Re: Tartarus/Dark Hour and the Real World. IIRC, it's stated that the Kirijo Group experiment to cause The Fall 10 years ago by Mitsuru's Grandfather (and the one that Yukari's dad stopped at the cost of creating the Full Moon Shadows and the casualties of the event) led to the creation of the Dark Hour.

It's a bit hazy (or maybe just my memory is) because the accounts of that event change as time goes on. IIRC, the Kirijo Group was initially working on time travel via harnessing shadows (somehow don't ask) but Mitsuru's Grandfather became obsessed with The Fall like Ikutsuki and changed goals to that. Mitsuru's dad has been doing clean-up ever since. I guess if there was originally a time manipulation component involved in the experiment that's the explanation for the Dark Hour being a literal extra hour. Tartarus is located on the site of the old Kirijo lab where the experiment took place so there's that connection. That would mean Kirijo had access to shadows before Dark Hour/Tartarus though if I have all that right.

Maybe the Arena games clean some of this up/explain more? I can't help there though.

She's older than Kanji, who can't because he's 15. High School in Japan has 3 years, if that's throwing you off. Makoto was a third-year and 18, IIRC.

And here I was thinking Kanji was fourteen and the others were fifteen, my bad.

Remember. Japan is 6 years of Elementary school and 3 years of Middle School. So first year high school = 10th grade = 15 years old, or 16 once your birthday passes

Generally speaking, it's extremely difficult to use a Persona in the real world. The TV World is extremely responsive to Personas though. In P4A, the P3 guys are all amazed that they can summon theirs without using their evokers.

I will forget this, but I will remember that Japan has a three-year high school system.

I've been bouncing around the idea of playing the spinoffs when I'm done, but I don't know if they're good and I don't have a PSP, Vita, or PS4.

- Make lunch, invite Kou, Daisuke shows up. I didn't invite you, I only had enough for twooooo
- Realize I missed a side quest for the book guy that now prevents me from finishing all of the dungeon 3 side quests in one go, what a pain.
- Teddie, why are you going back into the costume when you're in the TV world?
- Takes me like 45 minutes to find enough Dancing Hands to get the items to make the boots for the book guy side quest. Holy damn, those little bastards just didn't want to spawn.
- Bathhouse bonus boss is pathetically easy to beat now that I'm overleveled.

For what it's worth, both Arena games are on PS3. I liked them, but I feel like that's a minority opinion.

- Completed all of the TV world side quests.
- I honestly can't tell if the bonus boss at Rise's strip club being a giant baby is supposed to be symbolic or not.
- Defeated the bonus boss, it was more time-consuming than difficult. I actually forgot all about Shadow Teddie and was surprised to get a Teddie weapon, I was wondering what I'd get for Rise.
- Of note: if you're exhausted from the TV world, you can't do part-time jobs or read at home, but you can make lunch for the next day.

I cannot for the life of me find the guy who needs 3 fashionable dishes for a side quest. I found a guide that insists he's in the south central shopping district, but I've talked to everyone multiple times.

Anyone know how to get a red goldfish for the fox quest cat guy? All of my googling gives me P4G stuff, which I guess added new, easier ways.

Not in a convenient or reliable manner. Like you can get some from quest rewards or doing good on tests but that's not something you can really rely on. Apparently if you try to use the dial machine outside the item shop on a rainy day it can get stuck and you can get the shopkeeper to give you keys... I never knew this though so I don't know how many. This would also spend time IIRC.

The "best" way I think is to hope you run into gold shadows, think they have them as guaranteed drops. Might be random chance from treasure chests? I forget.

What day is it? I know back when I was making a personal guide for something else in P4 I had to cross-reference a few guides because none of them had exactly what I wanted but the guide I think I used the most has that quest becoming available on 8/9 (though instructs readers to collect the materials earlier since it's one of the few you can so you can save the trip by doing it earlier since its a material drop and not a unique item that only drops when you have the quest for it)

I know Leon linked you an FAQ but... fishing. It's been ages since I've done original P4 fishing, but IIRC each fish has a unique kind of splash or rhythm to it that differentiates them from one another. And if you pull back the bait before a fish bites you save the attempt so you can retry without costing a bait/attempt if the "wrong" fish shows. Red Goldfish is the weakest fish so I forget what exactly that translates to here so this is kinda unhelpful sorry.

...Basically, uh... go fishing for it. Save before attempting and reload if you don't get one if you don't want to waste time.

- They made Rise take the finals? She's been in school for like two weeks, if that.
- "What do I need to know English for?!" - big celebrity who talks a lot on TV.
- I still love how the "special headquarters" is just a food court at a mall. It tells you so much about how unprepared a bunch of kids are for this adventure, it's so clever and perfect. I remember back when I played P3, someone said it makes sense for unprepared kids to just be wearing their normal clothes in Tartarus because they aren't semi-professionals like P5's cast. But I'll be honest, I wouldn't mind if everyone in P4 had like detective outfits.
- Kou learns in his social link that he was given to an orphanage because both of his parents were sickly. Uh, they were both sickly at the same time? And the mother was still able to carry a child to term? And neither of them had relatives to take the baby?
- A boy appears on the Midnight Channel. It's the kid with weird eyes who once hit on Yukiko at the beginning of the game! I think I've seen him once since then. I'll admit, I forgot all about him when I was thinking of whom the cops might suspect for the murders. He directly faces the screen and challenges us to try and catch him.
- I just realized the last day of school was a Tuesday. That's weird.
- Nanako can just make accessories that give +5 to all stats, huh? Maybe she should take over the weapons shop.
- I impress the old man with my Huge Fish, but I think I bought it from Tanaka or something. Oh well, good enough. I've fished exactly once during this game so far, hopefully it won't be too challenging to get the ultimate fish for the old man quest.
- I get a picture of the mysterious boy--Mitsuo. The game claims it's from a yearbook, but I can clearly see it's one of those traditionally-printed photos from like a pharmacy or something, it's clearly not from a yearbook.
- I like how everyone is so sure Mitsuo did it. I guess in fairness, they do determine that he has a connection to each of the victims. I also like how Rise's ability to track people in the TV world with her persona is only introduced just now. If I hadn't played P3, this would be completely out of nowhere.
- Mitsuo's dungeon appears to be an 8-bit video game level. You know, just one time, just oooonnnnneeee time, when video games reference older video games, I'd like to see an N64/PS1-era level, with blocky garbage 3D models and horribly awkward camera controls.
- "I hereby sentence him to a hundred kicks to the face!"
- I also like how I can just tell he won't join the party. He's a teenager whom you have to rescue in a Persona game, but you can just tell because he's so ugly.
