Watched up to Boogiepop 13.

Arc was quite excellent. Probably the best yet yeah. Kisugi by far my favorite character so far. Too bad she died. She had something of a Hannibal Lector (from the TV show) feel to her, which is pretty much the best sort of feeling for a villain to have. I haven't found any of the other villains likable, but I liked her a lot.

Not quite sure what to think of the themes of this series, especially after Boogiepop said Towa's not an enemy in the previous arc. Both of them kinda have the goal of hunting down people who are no longer normal. So what's the show trying to say? Being normal is best? If you're abnormal there's something wrong with you? Conforming is all the best choice, no matter how you feel inside? I mean, Boogiepop was seemingly happy to let Mo Murder run free killing dozens of people - because those were people Boogiepop didn't care to protect? Usually I don't care about themes but this one doesn't seem so great.

Yeah. There was also a line in there about evolved people being behind Towa, though I might've misinterpreted it. So maybe it's more about the hypocrisy of those with power? Boogiepop is kinda presented as a good guy though, so I dunno. It's a bit odd how the first scene of the series kinda shows us a side of Boogiepop that we haven't seen since, with the worry about someone who's crying. Though I guess that could've been a lie since if Echoes had kept crying the Earth could've been destroyed so it's not as compassionate a gesture as it might've first seemed...

I think Boogiepop wants to let weird people exist without being persecuted for their weirdness, but they also want to make sure there is a place for normal people in normal society. so if anyone starts getting too weird, to the point where they are trying to disrupt or destroy society, they will step in.

But again, wouldn't Mo Murder fit into that category? He killed more people than anyone else in the show.

yeah you're probably right, there. I think the morality of the show in general, and of boogiepop, is pretty nebulous. even what I said was probably giving Boogiepop too much credit. they are not supposed to be this protector who keeps human society safe, or anything like that.

boogiepop is specifically an automatic response that rises to the surface whenever he is needed. I don't think anyone fully understands what those criteria are. at least not at this point in the story. maybe it's explained better in later novels.

Spring 2019

One Punch Man 2: I wasn't a huge fan of the first season like most people seemed to be. I might watch this later, but I definitely won't keep up with it while it's airing. I know I'd just lose interest and stall out.

Kimetsu no Yaiba: Eh, maybe. Depends on if I hear good things about it or not. Haven't heard anything about it yet.

Kitsune no Senko-san: Not really something I'd check out normally.

Fruits Basket: Isn't this like a pretty old series? I thought it would have gotten an adaptation already. Maybe it already has one. Unless this is a new thing with the same name... So far nothing good on the list.

Hitoribocchi: It could be funny. This is like, if I don't see anything else good, and I'm really bored, and I need to watch some anime, I would call this one up from the bench. Hard maybe.

Ace of Diamond 2: Already watching this. Imagine literally being so pissed off that it made you throw a baseball faster and better.

Kenja no Mago: Fantasy isekai series are usually a hard pass for me.

Boku-tachi wa Bankyou: Ummm.... hm. Well it's an ecchi comedy series but at a glance the art style doesn't actually look like the characters are very hot. So... I don't get it?

Kono Oto Tomare: A musical slice of life series. I haven't found these too interesting in the past, aside from one notable excpetion.

Gunjou no Magmel: This actually sounds... kinda cool? It makes me think of Monster Hunter or something similar, but the fun twist is that it apparently follows the relief workers who show up to help the explorers after everything has gone wrong. It's at least different enough from just the standard story of following the explorers. Might check this out.

Occult Koumuin: Paranormal type series are usually a really hard sell for me. Anime in particular is bad at horror, and I don't like the horror genre at all because it's pretty poor most of the time, at least by my estimation.

Magmel is like the one show not officially picked up this season. It might have fansubs though.

Fairy GONE: Reminds me somewhat of the premise of Terra Formars, with the animal organs being transplanted into humans to give them super powers. I'm not sure what this is really about though. Apparently the crisis is over and super soldiers are trying to get over their PTSD or something.

Mix: Is this another baseball series airing in the same season as Ace of Diamond...?

Utau Shoujo YU-NO: A science fiction story about parallel worlds. It's the kind of thing that expects you to take the premise seriously if you want to consider it to be well done, and I'm SO BAD at taking anime writing seriously.

Shoumetsu Toshi: I feel like ten years ago I would have thought a mystery adventure story was something cool. Yet, here we are. Now I'm old, bitter, and jaded from a decade of reading stories with bad writing.

Cindarella Nine: No. Wait. Is this THREE baseball series in total all in the same season? Haha wow.

Rendai UTENA: I'm not going to lie, I understand only about 30% of the words in the summary of this show. If that isn't a case of ridiculous in-universe jargon salad I don't know what is. I don't know what anything is anymore. After reading that I'm not even sure I still speak english.

RobiHachi: It's one of those stories that sets up this really detailed and vast world, spends a shit load of time explaining what everything is and how it works, but then uses the setting to do nothing other than tell a mundane story you could tell in any regular setting.

Bakugan Battle Planet: What even is Bakugan? I feel like I've heard this word way too many times to still not know what it is. Wow, I am old. I am so old...

I like this but I'm a huge battle shonen junkie. I think your enjoyment of this is just gonna come down to how much you like a straightforward action-adventure show that executes well.

Yeah that entire thing with Yotsuba getting preached to about the entire "you can't make everyone happy"... If that breaks, she's prolly a big contender, esp cause she is still mostly trying to deny that she likes Fuutarou.

And also the Nino flag about supporting whoever marries Fuutarou kinda seems to be a flag eliminating her tbh.

I kinda don't like how they have just been flying through stuff at a really fast pace, that's my only complaint with this season so far. but all of the big MOMENTS from this episode were actually great. I just wish there were more and slower, you know...

I don't think it's a spoiler to say the pace should slow down to something more like what you're used to after Koshien ends.

I do agree that this is ridiculously fast-paced for how big of a deal it's supposed to be, though. And the manga wasn't any different. We've covered 7 chapters in these three episodes, which iirc is on par with Act 1's pacing.

Ill be a week behind, but I think Ill be watching Ace Act 2 weekly. Tempted to marathon it when its all done since it means no waiting weeks per match, but I also want to watch it now so why not. Finished ep3 and hot damn what a match so far even though I like it most when Sawamura is pitching.

finished reading Happiness last night. it was... okay. I gave it a 6/10.

it's weird that Oshimi Shizu has written two of my favorite manga and then a bunch of really average crap. this falls into the latter category. the beginning is sort of interesting although not really what I even wanted... I decided to stick with it. maybe it will get better, or he'll do something with the premise that will be unexpected and impress me.

eh, no. if anything, it got worse.

the world felt too small, the fact that vampires existed in this world had very little direct impact on so many of the major plot elements... things kept getting brushed aside with time skips. the ending was actually sort of nice, but over half of the manga (most of the stuff between the beginning arc and the last two chapters) was just not all that interesting or well written.

Shingeki no Kyojin, Season 3, Part 2, Episode 1

Good stuff. I like how this episode was all about Armin taking command and being effective. Reminds me of season 1! Can't wait to see the rest of this battle unfold. There's a heavy theme of nostalgia in this episode with them talking about the past a lot, and the new ending is also very focused on showing lots of stills from moments in the past. Huh!
