Yeah, I'm not ready to write off that possibility. If we take Zelda as an example, it's not ridiculous to wonder if Link may have also received his biggest boost since 2004 (if not ever). Even ignoring BotW's popularity as a game, Link's own redesign was super popular, and marked the first time the character's look was notably changed since 2003.

But yeah there is a huge margin of error for this, and these are jusr raw numbers. I can't predict the future, I'm just seeing what I can do.

I doubt it too. I nfact i expect Cloud to win in Europe but back in the day it was 60%+. He'll be struggling to get 50% agaisnt Link in Europe now.

BotW is probably the one game that should have serious strength on this site. We've seen this poll after less than 3 months of BotW:

Yeah it would beat TP

But you can't say for sure how well it would do agaisnt MM/WW. It probably beats WW ok but MM is 50/50. You have ot take into consideration OoT absolutely draining the shit out of everything. So Games like MM would perform a lot better in a 1v1 Poll v BOTW.

I don't think it beats LttP as that has a huge core following.

And interestingly we've had this poll before and OoT always comes out on top but BOTW really Leeched off OoT enough for LttP to win it.

I think 1v1

OoT>LttP>MM>BOTW>WW>TP

Or OoT>Lttp>BOTW>MM>TP>WW If we assume TP is being SFF'd to hell and back by OoT.

BotW is weird because it's basically a return to NES Zeldas.

Most people I see praising it a lot are Zelda 1 fans. I've seen many saying they disliked the change made by LttP (more focus on puzzles and gimmicks and less on exploration) and enjoy the return to form.

So the challenge for BotW in this site is overcome the fact people here are in love with OoT. We don't mind the puzzles and gimmicks. And many modern Zelda fans think Zelda 1 is too hard or too non-linear.

It seems it does that job pretty well, but maybe not enough to beat OoT itself.

Have enough people even played BOTW here? Less than half of the users have a Switch, right?

I think it wouldn't become a powerhouse for a few years. OoT is unbeatable because it's been on every Nintendo console for 20 years and had a killer handheld port.

I would not take Breath of the Wild over OoT or Chrono Trigger, but I would take it over everything else. The other games you list definitely could beat it, but I'd be willing to bet on BotW in my bracket.

The impact that game had is absolutely insane. Nintendo still advertises it and features it in Switch advertisements as if it's their brand-new tentpole release for every fiscal quarter. Crazy shit.

Super Mario Odyssey got screwed, though - it would have had a bigger impact if BotW didn't overshadow it so thoroughly. It's especially sad because Odyssey is the better game.

BOTw obviously wont because Single player Zelda games will continue to do well but the way i see it it depends on the receptio nlong term

having spent time on Zelda boards on many sites BOTW is rated highly. It consistenly comes in #2 in minor or major Zelda polls wherever i See(behind OoT) so who knows

Skyward Sword was being bashed from the get go.

Still the only Major Zelda game Post OoT to not win GOTY poll here. MM didn't get an opportunity but would have eaisly won it.

The point would be that part of Cloud's natural strength comes from Smash, and that strength evaporates when he's against a character Nintendo fans love more.

At this rate it wouldnt surprise me if our final is Link vs Zelda and the Games contest being BotW vs OoT finals

I think it's more like this: During Cloud vs Alucard or Cloud vs Crono, Cloud gets votes from apathetic Nintendo fans who recognize him from Smash and don't really know who the other guys are. But when Cloud goes up against a beloved Nintendo icon like Link, Mario, etc, his Smash boost collapses, hence the "Smash SFF".

What has him being top tier got to do with anything? Most of the casual fanbase don't play in top tier.

Even if this is the strongest Link we've ever seen, it might not even give Link his biggest ever win over Mario because his SFF powers have gotten much weaker. Link/Mario is usually 62-65% after SFF comes into play.

You can confirm there isn't SFF tainting the mix in Zelda/Sonic much so it does help quite a lot.

Keep in mind I had them all on the same tier anyway. I'd still have them there but Cloud is in the middle of it and Snake/Zelda are at the top. Mega and Pika beating Cloud wouldn't surprise me a ton at this point.
