AMI has also admitted its principal purpose in making the payment was to suppress the story to prevent it from influencing the election and that it acted in concert with "a candidate's presidential campaign"

Fox News' polling wing is actually quite good. They control for biases and generally come pretty close to an accurate reflection of what the general population believes. Their actual "news" wing is atrocious, of course, but their polling is usually very accurate.

I liked Howard Dean so that was really frustrating to me when it happened. A candidate I liked finally had a none 0 chance and it got killed by a moment of excitement that became a joke.

Comparing it to the stuff we get now just makes it more frustrating.

But even more than that, there was no "investigative" element to the Howard Dean situation. There was nothing that could ever develop from that story even in theory. It was just pure hacking at single sound clip that aired publicly in the first place over and over and over and over.
