I've been wondering for a while now if Kavanaugh is going to end up shifting his public decisions further left than expected in order to avoid scrutiny. Probably gonna be a long time before we see enough decisions to make assumptions.

Normally I'd say such a thing is unthinkable of a Supreme Court Judge, but seeing how he acted and responded during that hearing... I could see him having enough insecurity.

i've often wondered if his evasive answers towards abortion meant he planned to accept the supreme court precedent exactly up until he was in a position to reverse it or if he just didn't want to take a stance supporting it publicly before he got to the bench

imagine if he actually thinks its fine and the crusade against him was pointless

Uhhh, his rant about the Clintons and whatnot on the Senate Floor during his confirmation hearings means that the crusade against him was absolutely not pointless, regardless of his views on specific issues.

First bit of good news wrt abortion rights out of the Supreme Court post Kavanaugh:

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/supreme-court-rejects-review-of-medicaid-funding-for-planned-parenthood

Both Kavanaugh and Roberts voted with the liberal members with the other three conservatives in dissent. Obviously this is not exactly the same thing as affirming what previous courts have decided, but it is a tentatively optimistic step in the right direction. I still think Roberts himself is enough to stop these things since I do not think he wants that big of a decision being overturned, but I still think this ruling makes me cautiously, tentatively optimistic.

Kavanaugh knows he is being watched & the last thing he wants to happen is give Democrats enough political capital to impeach & remove him. We may have taken a conservative judge & forced him to judge in the middle because he was so thoroughly dressed down during his confirmation hearings. Had Republicans kept the house at minimum, he would gladly be a Republican stooge right now. My guess is that he is gonna follow Roberts in whatever he does.

Why would that make anyone here sad?

Like...she's not particularly popular on the left, being a pro-corporate pro-fracking politician, and I wasn't under the impression that she was popular on the right either.

So it would have to be some seriously weird situation for me to expect people to be sad. Something like...she's innocent but gets arrested anyway for partisan reasons. And even then, I don't think people would be sad about her being arrested so much as sad about an obvious sign of a crumbling American democracy (people being arrested for their political views).

I think it is important to note that they didn't vote against any issue. They voted against feeling the issue was worthy of a Supreme Court look at it.

That may not matter to some of you, but there is a slight difference there.

That said, Kavanaugh has always been a staunch supporter of precedent with his conservative views. The villany that many attributed to him if he was in office are just bullshit, and anyone with a brain already knew that. Roe V Wade and Gay Marriage was never going to be touched.
