Just want to know what I can get from paying $1,000 to $1,500 of rent. Would I be able to live in a good area? Would I be able to live comfortably and save up if I earn $30k a year after taxes? Is it truly that hot outside that people stay inside most of the time and run AC all the time? How diverse is Houston, especially with the Asian population? Are there a bunch of different ethnicities/races like the Bay Area or New York? Someone could say there's a lot of diversity but maybe it's diverse in that city but compared to another city it might not be.

Houston is VERY Asian-friendly. We have our own Chinatown, and there are many Asian populations all over the city and metropolitan area. It's a great place to live. It's fairly cheap to live here. You can find work. You can rent an apartment for $500-$600. I have an all-bills-paid apartment that's a one bedroom, one study with washer/dryer and cable for $905/month. People are mostly friendly.

My apartment is $645 light bill separate. I stay in the poor side but close to the rich side I live 8mins away from galleria. The area I stay at isn't that bad mostly Hispanics though. Chinatown is located to the west of Houston on beltway 8 and Bellaire it's a nice are you can find decent homes for $180k-$250k on that area. I'm too lazy to draw out a map for you but it's a nice area. You get several main roads running on that area. Weather is crazy we get cold, rain, heat randomly at times.

I'm assuming TC's Asian. If so, Houston has a huge population of Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, and Filipino. It even has its own Chinatown with new businesses opening up regularly.

I don't know if I can say with absolute certainty, but I'd say yes. We like to drive a lot in Texas, especially because of how massive the state is. A few years ago when I visited Houston, we entered the city limits and it still took an hour+ to get into what I would consider the actual city. And that was with light traffic, which is very uncommon in Houston.

That's good to hear cause if I decide to move there I know I'll be with my own kind as well as other minorities. Growing up I always hear Texas is super racist and that's probably true everywhere including Houston, California and New York but it seems like if there's a lot of different ethnicitys/races, different cultures, etc. in an area seems like everyone gets along better and seems like there's less racism. I would probably feel weird being in a city with no or very few Asians.

I can rent a 1br apartment in or near Chinatown in good safe areas for less than $1,000/month and buy decent houses in decent places for $250k or less? If you or anyone else can tell me all the good and bad areas that'd be great. I remember there was a mass flooding in Houston not too long ago. How often does that happen? Are there a lot of natural disasters in Houston?

The hot weather is really that bad? I'm used to mid 50s to low to mid 60s in the winter and low 70s to low/mid 80s temperatures in the summer. 85 degree Fahrenheit with not much physical activity would be my max comfort limit and anything over that would make me uncomfortable.

I kinda expected a lot of traffic in a big city. Hopefully it's not the gridlocked kind of traffic in the city streets or taking 25 minutes to go 2 miles on the freeway.

Depends where you live, it's a huge city. Sugar land and Bellaire have lots of asian people.

Houses are cheap, but honestly Houston fucking sucks. It's ugly as sin and hot as hell. Lots of good food though, that's the only upside.

Don't live near Chinatown, it's not a safe or nice area outside of the strip malls. Suburbs are your best bet for cheap nice and safe, look around sugar land.

There's no denying that much. It's going to be in the 90s for at least 5 months a year, usually not more than 6. We start rising temps in April-May and they begin to fall around the end of September.

Do natural disasters happen often in Houston?

We been hit hard twice in a 9 year time frame, Ike in 2008 and Harvey in 2017, not to mention a few tropical storms and the panic of Hurricane Rita in 2005. The time we have to really be prepared for are the months of August and September. Hurricane season is longer than that, but those two months are the most dangerous. But you got to remember too that there's almost nowhere you can go that's completely safe, so you just have to roll the dice sometimes. It's happened for centuries, but we always move on.

Also, don't be surprised to see temps in the 70s, possibly low 80s, towards the end of November and into December. I remember spending Christmas Eve in 70-something degree weather last year or the year before and it really put a damper on the Holidays.
