I'd also like to see language be less of a barrier, but that's a more difficult nut to crack. Metrics has its advantages in places with close proximity to one another, but in the US and Canada, customary is still quite common because there really isn't any advantage to converting to metrics. We should also update all languages to have distinct words for "make" and "do" to avoid confusion, except those languages have survived without an issue for hundreds, if not thousands of years. In regards to driving, again, it's mainly an insular thing. Keep in mind that the most populous nation in the world also drives on the right side. The way I see it, when in Rome, do as the Romans do. When in China, do as the Chinese do.
