I already enjoyed Tifa, but because of the last two rounds of her matches I flat out love her now.

It depends on whether or not I like a character previously. I already loved Vivi before he upset Mario - it was because it was Vivi doing the upsetting that I loved the result so much. Nothing he's done or will do changes my opinion on him.

With someone like Tifa though, who I'm ambivalent on, close contest matches make me like her a bit more, yeah. Geralt too.

I've never touched Symphony of the Night, but I freaking love Alucard based off The Plan, and everything he's given us through his contest history.

There are so many contest vets whose games I've never played but just enjoy after seeing their matches for years - Snake is probably the best example of this

on the flip side there was a period in 2008 where every time I played Brawl and Sandbag showed up I immediately stopped what I was doing to go kill it

Oh I definitely hate Mega Man for resisting LFF from Zero in 2013 far better than the last two times they'd been in a match together. (Also because this board insisted that Mega Man 2 was a masterpiece and it's literally unplayable.) Granted, all the stupidity in Division 8 meant that Charizard would've been boned the next round anyway, but that was painful.

Aside from extreme cases like Draven, no.

Master Chief is one of my favorite video game characters largely because of exciting GameFAQs matches

Luigi Yoshi and Bowser I like less/dislike more because they win too many debatable contest matches where I like the other guy more. Also Pokemon characters in general.

So yeah quite a bit.

Only during contests. Like I dont hate LoZ/FF7, but I basically always anti-vote them and hate how they bury other characters I find to be way better.

Not exactly.

I do kinda treat the contests as their own universe and by extension I treat some of the characters more like characters originating in the contests rather than their own games.

Like treating Mario as the villain during contests because of his past escapades. Or loving Link because of the utter domination. Or Crono for his saga with Mario.

None of this follows me outside the realm of the contests, but within them some of them may as well be completely different entities than the game versions.

I know nothing of Alucard, but he looks cool and The Plan is great so I've come to like him, for example.

Also when non-characters like Missingno and Master Hand beat quality characters it pushes me from neutral to disliking them
