Sonic's first appearance in a fighting game was Sonic the Fighters, not Smash. That game also gets you Tails, Knuckles, and Amy Rose, and the HD version makes Eggman and Metal Sonic playable too.

Also, Poison should be in the second category because she (?) originated in Final Fight, not Street Fighter.

I'm guessing Crono's the strongest character to never be playable in a fighting game -- he is the only Noble Niner not to be on the list so far anyway, though Missingno beat him before and who knows if there's another near-elite non-playable fighter like Auron ready for the upset.

When you say "first being playable," are you saying these are the first times each of these characters were playable in the whole series (meaning they were original fighters if they weren't NPCs earlier in the series)...or saying these were the first time they were playable in a Touhou fighting game, but they were playable earlier in the series (meaning they should be considered as previously-established characters)?

If they were NPCs before, I'm counting them as established.
